Henry Cavill has emerged as a serious challenger to Callum Turner in the latest next James Bond odds following a dramatic surge in betting interest.
The former Superman actor has shortened from 20/1 to 9/4 in just 24 hours, having attracted 47% of all bets placed on the market during that period. That represents a remarkable change from the previous seven days, when Cavill accounted for only 0.6% of bets.
The sudden move comes as Bond producer Amy Pascal suggested that Daniel Craig’s replacement could be chosen before the end of 2026. Pascal said the team was approaching the decision methodically and wanted Craig’s successor to offer something different and exciting.

Why have Henry Cavill’s next James Bond odds shortened?
Cavill’s odds have collapsed from 20/1 to 9/4, increasing his raw implied probability from approximately 4.8% to 30.8%.
That is a rise of 26 percentage points and means his implied chance is now more than six times higher than it was 24 hours ago. The movement has been driven by a concentrated burst of support, with Cavill receiving 47% of bets over the last day compared with just 0.6% during the preceding week.
However, a shortening price does not necessarily indicate that any new casting information has emerged. Betting markets can move sharply when a large share of customers back the same selection, particularly in an open market where no actor has been officially confirmed.
Cavill has been associated with the role for two decades. He auditioned for Casino Royale before Daniel Craig was cast, with director Martin Campbell later describing his performance as impressive and revealing that Cavill had been considered too young at the time.
There is some irony to his latest market support. Cavill suggested earlier in 2026 that he might now be considered too old to begin a lengthy run as Bond, while also expressing interest in potentially playing a villain in the franchise.
That has not deterred Oddschecker bettors, who have pushed him firmly back into contention.

Callum Turner remains the favourite at 11/10, although his position at the head of the market is now under pressure from Cavill.
The 11/10 price gives Turner a raw implied probability of 47.6%, compared with Cavill’s 30.8%. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack Lowden are the closest challengers behind the leading pair at 6/1.
Turner has repeatedly been linked with the role but insists he has no knowledge of Amazon MGM’s plans. Speaking about the speculation in June, he said he knew as much as the public, despite friends and former acquaintances regularly contacting him about the rumours. George Clooney, who directed Turner in The Boys in the Boat, has publicly backed him as someone who could make a strong Bond.
Harris Dickinson is available at 8/1, while Louis Partridge, Jacob Elordi, James Norton and Theo James complete the leading contenders.
When will the next James Bond be announced?
A decision could finally arrive before the end of 2026.
Producer Amy Pascal said an announcement by the end of the year was a “good bet”, although she stressed that the filmmakers were taking their time because of the difficulty of replacing Daniel Craig.
Amazon MGM officially began the casting process in May, appointing experienced casting director Nina Gold to lead the search for the seventh actor to play Bond in the main film series.
Denis Villeneuve has already been confirmed as director, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing. Amazon MGM has also appointed Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the screenplay.
The project represents the beginning of a new era after Amazon MGM gained creative control of the franchise through its joint venture with long-standing Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
For now, Turner remains the man to beat, but Cavill’s extraordinary 24-hour move has turned what had been a relatively settled market into a genuine two-horse race.
