It looks like we’ll continue to see McGregor at 170 pounds…
British bookmakers have tried their hand at predicting who will be named Conor McGregor’s next opponent – and it looks certain to be Jorge Masvidal.
The Welterweight contender (and BMF champion) is the 1/8 clear favourite to be next in line for the Irishmen, following his 40 second win over Donald Cerrone.
In layman’s terms, that means bookies think there’s an 89% implied chance that McGregor and Masvidal square off inside the octagon next.
The price is short due to attention from punters, with 41% of all the early money on McGregor’s next opponent all backing Gamebred.
Elsewhere, it’s a rematch with unbeaten Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov which is the second most likely scenario for McGregor, with Nurmagomedov priced at 5/1.
All eyes will be on the Russian and dance partner Tony Ferguson, who are set to fight in April, with Ferguson the third favourite at 8/1.
With the three potential fights mentioned all in the welterweight division, a move back down to lightweight and a fight with Justin Gaethje is 10/1.
The completion of the Nate Diaz trilogy comes next in the market at 11/1, with unfinished business between the California native and the Irishman.
A potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather rounds off the possibilities of McGregor’s next fight, with arguably the greatest ever boxer 80/1 to fight the Notorious One next.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “There had been two general elections since McGregor’s last win in the octagon before Saturday night, but the Irishman returned in mercurial fashion.
“It’s not a title fight, but a clash between two fan favourites (Masvidal and McGregor) whets the appetite for a number of huge fights in 2020.
“Will we see McGregor win a belt in a mind-boggling third weight class?”
