Betting Tip: Tyson Fury to win by unanimous decision

The bookmakers heavily favour the champion to successfully defend his belt against The Body Snatcher, with Fury a 3/13 favourite and as short as 1/6 in many places. However, even the 9/2 about Whyte does not appeal as it’s tough to see the Brixton man overcome the larger, more skilful and more mobile Tyson Fury. As Carl Frampton said in the oddschecker preview, Dillian Whyte’s profile looks tailormade for Fury who has had success against stylistically similar heavyweights in the past (see Tyson Fury’s win against Dereck Chisora in 2014).

However, there is some value to be had in backing Fury, despite his short outright price. The exact method of victory markets in particular present a few opportunities: the bookies are expecting Fury to continue in his seek and destroy style and stop Whyte inside the distance. However, it would not be a complete shock to see Fury box in a slightly more conservative manner akin to how he boxed prior to the Wilder bouts. In Whyte, Tyson Fury has an opponent who is more physically robust than Wilder, he has a busier jab and will be more effective in close quarters. Despite all the changes to his coaching and boxing style, it would not be a shock to see Fury boxing off the back foot and using his stick and move tactics, at least early in the fight. With that in mind, the 11/4 that is available on Tyson Fury to win a unanimous decision does look attractive: it’s very difficult to make a case for Whyte to win if it goes 12 rounds, or even make it close. Therefore, removing the split and majority decisions from the equation and backing the exact method as unanimous, helps boost the price a bit and looks like good value.

Betting Tip: Tyson Fury to win in Rounds 10-12

If you are looking to back Tyson Fury and want a longer price, then betting on the grouped rounds are interesting. Backing Fury to win in the later rounds looks good: we saw in Fury’s last fight against Wilder that he has the fitness and stamina to go through a gruelling fight and still be able to close the show in the later rounds. Dillian Whyte also offers a very different challenge than Wilder and as mentioned earlier in the article, there’s a chance it will begin as a cagey affair. Whyte has shown before that he has a solid chin, but has tired later in fights, so an accumulation of punishment could do for him in the championship rounds. Tyson Fury to win in rounds 10-12 is best price 6/1 with Parimatch and as short as 9/2 in places.
