Fury vs Usyk

The technical prowess of Oleksandr Usyk will be tested when he goes up against the heavy hitting Tyson Fury tonight as they battle it out for the undisputed heavyweight title.

Fury wasn't convincing in his last outing when being dropped by MMA fighter turned boxer, Francis Ngannou, when winning by decision despite one judge scoring Ngannou as the winner.

He will have to improve if he wants to defeat Usyk who picked up all four belts in the cruiserweight division before moving onto the heavyweights.

The Ukranian boxer has since picked up an array of wins against the best in the division thanks to his incredible technical ability.

His intricate footwork and movement around his opposition as well as his fast hands and head movement makes him an extremely tricky opponent and his stamina is unheard of for a heavyweight boxer.

However, we cannot forget the fact that he fights a far bigger man tonight and for some, Fury's enormous frame and his ability to use that to his advantage is enough to support the Gypsy King.

Whatever happens this is sure to be a fantastic fight.

Usyk to Win By Technical Knockout

There are a few key reasons why I think Usyk will be able to win this fight by technical decision.

Firstly, I am not convinved that Fury is the force he once was, his last four performances have not been convincing.

Deontay Wilder came close to beating the Gyspy King in their first fight and he was seconds away from losing after narrowly surviving a count down to come back and draw, he was also knocked down twice in their third fight.

Further, he was pushed all the way by Otto Wallin, a southpaw fighter like Usyk, who inflicted a serious cut to Fury which has recently opened again in sparring.

Usyk meanwhile has beat a host of greater opponents than Fury has with ease. This includes Anthony Joshua (twice) and Daniel Dubois.

Second, Fury won't be used to fighting someone like Usyk who is smaller and more technical and fights southpaw.

He was damaged by a back hand from a southpaw fighter in Wallin and now fights a southpaw with one of the best back hands in the game, if Usyk can reopen that cut things could get hairy for Fury.

Finally, I think Usyk's movement will cause Fury a problem. Fury moves well for a heavyweight but Usyk's movement is world class in any division.

He can overcome Fury's size and power advantage and if he can wear down the heavyweight and use his stamina to his advantage to put together some punches to TKO the big man when he gets the chance.

Usyk to win in Rounds 9-12

If I am backing Usyk to win by TKO then it only makes sense to back the fight to end in rounds 9-12.

Fury will want to stop Usyk getting into any kind of flow state or allow him to process any information early.

The Ukranian tends to like to absorb as much information from his opponent as possible in the early stages and to pick apart his opponent tactically.

So Fury will have to stop him from doing this early to prevent Usyk finding any king of rhythm.

I think this will only play into Usyk's hands as he will want to wear down his larger, less fit opponent and use his incredible stamina finish a tired Fury in the late stages.

We saw what Usyk can do in the late stages when he fought Joshua. He averaged 41 punches per round in the first eight rounds and 52 in the last four in the first fight. In the second fight he averaged 54 in the first eight rounds and 72 in the last four.

I think if he is to take down Fury it will be late when the fighters stamina will be tested.

Oleksandr Usyk to Score 1 or More Knockdowns

Fury has hit the deck a fair few times in recent fights.

He was dropped twice by Wilder in both their first fight and the third fight and was dropped most recently by MMA fighter Francis Ngannou in his last fight.

If there were doubts he cant be put down by a smaller fighter you need only to look at his fight with Cunningham when he was dropped in the second round.
