The rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk takes center stage in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia tonight, as two heavyweight giants clash for the WBA, WBO, and WBC titles.

The first clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in May 2024 was a closely contested battle. Fury dominated the early rounds using his size, reach, and sharp jab to his advantage, but Usyk turned the tide in the later stages.

A pivotal moment came in the ninth round when Usyk knocked Fury down, marking a significant shift in momentum.

Though Fury rallied to win round 12, Usyk secured a split-decision victory, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 24 years while handing Fury the first loss of his professional career.

Fury By Decision

Fury is going to be in better shape for this fight, his preparation is more thorough and he certainly won't want to fall victim to the game plan that cost him the fight last time.

The Brit started fast using his jabs, his reach and head movements and feints to dominate the early rounds. However, he's a six foot seven fighter and that takes a toll on the gas tank which is why he faded late and ultimately cost himself the victory.

Even then we saw the resilience of Fury, coming back to life after being knocked down and bringing the fight to Usyk in round 12. We know Fury is a warrior and saw similar in his first fight against Wilder.

With better preparation and a smarter approach to this fight Tyson Fury can use his size and reach advantage like he did in the early rounds of the first fight to give him the edge in this rematch and hopefully be better prepared to stop Usyk staging a late comeback.

This time, Fury is likely to pace himself better, conserving energy for all 12 rounds. With his superior jab, head movement, and ability to adapt, Fury can outpoint Usyk in a close contest.

I still expect the fight to get cagey for Fury towards the late stages but his relentless fighting spirit will hopefully be enough to secure the victory by decision.

Usyk to land 150+ punches

Usyk’s speed, agility, and high-volume punching have consistently troubled larger opponents, and it’s hard to envision Fury making significant adjustments in just six months to completely counter those strengths.

He landed 170 punches in the first fight which was the most an opponent has ever landed against Fury in a fight.

He landed 70 of those punches in the first six rounds of the fight and I think a more conservative start from Fury should give Usyk the opportunity to increase output earlier in the fight.

With our prediction the fight will go the distance again we are confident Usyk will be able to land 150+ punches again.

1+ Knockdown in the fight

Usyk’s knockdown in their last fight was pivotal, securing his split-decision victory and exposing Fury’s vulnerability to being floored. This marked the eighth time Fury has been knocked down in his career, including four against Deontay Wilder and one each in his bouts with Francis Ngannou and Usyk.

While Usyk has only been knocked down twice in his career, he remains at risk against Fury—one of the division’s hardest hitters, with a 67% knockout rate.

Fury’s preparation for this rematch has drawn praise, with many noting his renewed focus and determination to address the lapses that cost him in their first encounter. This time, we’re likely to see Fury at his sharpest.

Usyk’s ability to close the distance effectively neutralized Fury’s superior reach in their previous meeting. However, this also creates openings for Fury to land his uppercut—a weapon he underutilized last time.

Fury was successful when he let his hands go in the last fight so hopefully he gives himself the opportunity to do so in this fight.
