David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde

David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde Preview

After being upgraded to full WBC light-heavyweight world champion earlier this year, David Benavidez attempts a first defence of his new title against hard-hitting Londoner, Anthony Yarde.

Benavidez moved up to the 175lb division last summer, after failing to a land a super-middleweight showdown with Canelo Alvarez, and ‘The Mexican Monster’ has since scored decision victories over both Oleksandr Gvozdyk and David Morrell.

Meanwhile, Anthony Yarde has twice challenged for world honours at light-heavyweight in the past, failing in respective stoppage defeats to Sergey Kovalev and Artur Beterbiev in 2019 and 2023.

This time, Yarde hopes that the third time will prove lucky, but he enters the contest as a sizeable underdog against the undefeated champion, who seeks to kickstart his reign in style.

David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde Betting Tips

The punch power of Yarde makes him a threat against every fighter in the division, although he does have a tendency to tire down the stretch and the longer the fight goes on, the more you must favour Benavidez here.

Of Yarde’s 24 knockouts in 27 triumphs, 20 have come inside the first four rounds and none have come later than the seventh round. Additionally, in his two world title challenges, Yarde was halted in round 11 and then in round 8.

Contrastingly, David Benavidez breaks opponents down by swarming them with unrelenting pressure and mind-boggling output, landing an average of 22.9 punches per round and often going through the gears in the latter stages to secure the win.

As a result, I expect that Benavidez will utilize his superior gas tank and bank a first knockout win at 175lbs by dispatching of Yarde during the second half of the contest.

Although, an early Yarde stoppage also represents value as an outside selection, due to what looks to be an inflated price.

Jesse Rodriguez vs Fernando Martinez – Over 8.5 Rounds

Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez looks to move one step closer to becoming the first undisputed flyweight world champion since 1963 as he collides with WBA titleholder Fernando Martinez in a three-belt unification.

Rodriguez has proven himself to be a pound-for-pound star, but the Texan southpaw is up against a tougher test than the bookmakers suggest and the over 8.5 rounds selection looks a solid price given the iron chin of Martinez, as does the distance bet.

Brian Norman Jr. vs Devin Haney – Brian Norman Jr. by KO/TKO

A tough fight to call – Haney boasts technical advantages over the WBO welterweight champion, but he lacks the power to deter Norman from stalking him, as he fights at 147lbs for the first time.

Ultimately, this should be either a Haney win on the cards or a Norman stoppage, but the better value lies with the latter. Although, I believe this bet is best played as a single.

Sam Noakes vs Abdullah Mason – Under 8.5 Rounds

An undeniable talent, Ohio’s Abdullah Mason looks to capture the WBO lightweight world title at the age of just 21 years old; tasked with a fellow undefeated puncher in Maidstone’s Sam Noakes.

Despite the superior quality of the young and aggressive Mason, he has shown that he is there to be hit, and this clash could well turn into a shootout.

Therefore, I’m opting for the under 8.5 rounds selection here, anticipating a fast start and covering both an authoritative display from Mason and a surprise Noakes stoppage.
