Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov Preview
by Tom Eaton
This Saturday, ‘The Gypsy King’ takes to the ring for the first time in 16 months, seeking a first victory since defeating Francis Ngannou in October 2023. There, he is tasked with game, tough and hard-hitting Russian, Arslanbek Makhmudov, who intends on announcing himself to the world.
After much inactivity, will Fury prove that he is still the heavyweight division’s best hope of handing Oleksandr Usyk a maiden career defeat, or will Father Time provide Makhmudov with a life-changing opportunity?
Here, I took a look at what I believe to be the best selections on offer, ahead of Zuffa Boxing’s British debut, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov Fight Prediction
Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov - Fury in Rounds 7-12 (15/8 Sky Bet / Ladbrokes / Coral)
When analysing Fury’s recent success, it is his performances in defeats against Usyk that earn him more credit than his two most recent triumphs against Ngannou and Derek Chisora.
However, after some time away from the sport, it is hard to predict which Fury will turn up, with any below-par performance sure to be punished by an extremely motivated and desperate Makhmudov.
I anticipate a slow start from Fury, as he eases his way back into action and acclimatises himself with not having to overthink, against a less technical operator than Usyk.
It’s also important to recognise what impact those defeats may have had on the Briton, who could appear more gun-shy after suffering the first and second losses of his pro career.
That in mind, if Fury is in control, I anticipate that the fight will extend into the second half and Fury will likely get the stoppage before he runs out of time, with the mental strain of the fight taking it’s toll on Makhmudov down the stretch.
For me, Fury in rounds 7-12 is a handy price at 15/8 with Sky Bet. Although, I would also have a small single on Makhmudov in rounds 1-6 at 12/1 (Paddy Power), in case he takes advantage of the slow start and registers a 19th career stoppage inside six rounds.
Fury vs Makhmudov Undercard Betting Tips
Conor Benn vs. Regis Prograis - Conor Benn by KO, TKO or DQ (4/11 Widely Available)
Conor Benn plans on making a statement upon his Zuffa Boxing debut, after a controversial split from Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. Against Regis Prograis, he has every chance of doing just that, considering Prograis is a career super-lightweight fighting up at 150lbs in this catchweight affair.
Whilst 37-year-old Prograis has never been stopped, rumours are swirling that the American has suffered an injury during training camp and thus a stoppage for Benn should be well on the cards, best priced at 4/11 with Sky Bet.
Justis Huni vs. Frazer Clarke - Justis Huni by Decision or T/D (9/5 Quinn Bet)
Finally, Justis Huni bids to bounce back from his dramatic KO defeat to Fabio Wardley by taking on Wardley’s former rival, Frazer Clarke.
Clarke underwhelmed in a defeat to Jeamie TKV last time out and although he was stopped in the first round by Wardley, ‘Big Fraze’ can certainly take a shot well enough to survive 10 rounds here.
Expect that this will be a tactical encounter and that Huni will steer clear on the cards but ultimately find himself unable to find a blow big enough to dispatch of the Brit.
Treble Odds - 9/1 (Sky Bet / Paddy Power)
Fury in Rounds 7-12
Benn by KO, TKO or DQ
Huni by Decision of Technical Decision
