The Premier League heads to Cardiff for the second week and we have picked our best tip for each match.
Michael Smith v Daryl Gurney
Daryl Gurney did not receive a warm welcome last weekend from Dublin nor his opponent in van Barneveld, as clearly his previous on-stage antics in the past have come back to haunt him. Still, he managed a point against the former World Champion and managed five 180s in a hostile environment.
Michael Smith came back from 5-1 down to beat Gary Anderson 7-5 in quite a remarkable match. Michael Smith only filled up the treble 20s on 3 occasions but managed numerous 140s and once these two players get in the flow, expect quite a few 180 cards to be lifted amongst the Cardiff crowd. Over 6.5 180s at 7/9 for these two big hitters has value to it.
Rob Cross v Simon Whitlock
Rob Cross was battered by Michael van Gerwen last week and he will seriously need to hit the ground running this week against relegation favourite Simon Whitlock. However, Whitlock proved last week he isn’t there to make up the numbers and came back to beat Suljovic from 3-1 down, hitting 7/8 doubles and even checked out 160. If the Whitlock of last week turns up, there is no reason why he can’t have a couple more big checkouts against Cross and at odds of 5/6 for him to checkout higher than 90.5 looks a good bet.
Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright
Both of these players were in fine form last week and showed the world why they were the two fighting it out in the final last year. MvG really made sure he was on the top of his game against recent World Champion Rob Cross and on the form, he looks untouchable to go on and win back to back Premier League titles. The fact Cross could get nowhere near the green machine, just shows how much MvG wants this and the practice he has put in since the Worlds. MvG to hit the most 180s at 4/5 looks to be one of the bets of the night.
Gerwyn Price v Gary Anderson
The reception and atmosphere in Cardiff for Gerywn Price will be something else tonight and this will definitely get the fiery Welshman going. He couldn’t get anywhere near Snakebite last week but this is a real opportunity for Price to get a vital win on the board.
Anderson was 5-1 up last week before completely blowing it against Smith by losing six legs on the bounce. It is obvious the flying Scot is still struggling with his back injury he endured at the Worlds and he isn’t able to play the way he wants. Ex-darting pro Wayne Mardle came out this week saying he reckons Gary Anderson should pull out of the Premier League altogether and concentrate on his health. If he loses this match, he might well do. Price at 7/4 DNB looks the pick here.
Raymond van Barneveld v Mensur Suljovic
The Dutchman showed real class and nerve to win back a point last week against Daryl Gurney last week, whilst Suljovic showed his lack of experience by missing darts to put the game out of reach for Simon Whitlock. Van Barneveld has been there and done it for years whilst Suljovic is only just making a name for himself and the crowd will be right behind van Barneveld, as they normally are. Barney's a short price to win at 4/6, but he has the ability to control this game and win the points.
