Here are three tips as the party starts in Aberdeen - Back them as singles or a 24/1 treble!
Daryl Gurney v James Wade
Gurney wasn’t at the races (to my detriment) last week and while I think he will produce a much better performance here, I’ve got to go with James Wade to pick up his third win of the season. The only game he lost in so far, he averaged over a ton, and his 180 hitting is uncharacteristically high at the moment. He’s facing a man who is bottom of the 180 charts and I think that gives The Machine the edge in this one.
Mensur Suljovic v Gerwyn Price
It’s not a stretch to say that Gerwyn Price is possibly the in-form player on the planet right now. He’ll be annoyed with three Premier League draws, he definitely has the game to be topping the table right now. Suljovic is in the middle for almost every stat, but he’s been quite lucky that no player has played their best against him.
I think this is the week where it properly clicks for Price, and he’s a huge price to do the match treble (win, most 180s, highest checkout) – It’s definitely worth a shot.
Michael van Gerwyn v John Henderson
Dare we say it – Is MVG vulnerable? Losing in the Premier League last week, knocked out by Mervyn King in the UK Open… This won’t be a comfortable night at all, the Aberdeen crowd will be massively behind Hendo, who has absolutely nothing to lose. I’m really surprised at the bookies not giving the Scotsman a prayer. It’s a sprint and we’ve seen Henderson give MVG things to think about in their longer format matches.
I still expect MVG to win, but the handicap markets could offer value. I wouldn’t advise against Henderson +3.5, but I’m going to play it safe and go for Henderson +4.5, meaning he needs just three legs for a winning bet.
