Ross Smith v Mickey Mansell

Ross Smith does just about deserve to be favourite here, but his recent form doesn’t exactly jump off the page. He has bowed out in the first round of the last four Players Championship events. Micky Mansell put in some good performances at Players Championship 8, only narrowly losing to Luke Woodhouse, who we saw play so well on Saturday night. Mansell is the bigger price here, so take the 13/8 available on him.

Geert Nentjes v Ross Smith

Geert Nentjes is still quite inconsistent but at 21 that can expected. The talent is there though, beating Dave Chisnall in February proves that. As mentioned above, Smith’s recent form isn’t up to much, so we should side with Nentjes at 6/4. Smith at his best should win but we often don’t see the best of Ross Smith. Winning brings out confidence and he hasn’t doesn’t much of that lately which is a concern for him. If Nentjes can get him under pressure in the early stages of the game, he has a good chance.
