Italy, Turkey, Wales and Switzerland battle it out for Group A supremacy, but who has the upper hand going into Euro 2020?
Euro 2021 Group A Prediction: Italy and Turkey to qualify
Group A looks set to provide an intriguing start to Euro 2020 on Friday. The group includes some tantalizing match-ups and many people’s predicted dark horses for the tournament , Italy.
Since failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, Roberto Mancini has got The Azzurri back on track and earned a spot at the top of the market for Group A winner at a price of 4/7. Italy are currently 1/18 to qualify from the group and sixth favourites in the outright market at a best price of 11/1.
Italy are understandably clear favourites but will face tests in Group A, with the toughest likely to come in their opening fixture against Senol Gunes’ Turkey team.
Turkey enjoyed a strong qualifying campaign and looked solid in defence with Calgar Soyuncu marshalling the back four. The Lille duo of Burak Yilmaz and Yusuf Yaziki have been in fine goal-scoring form all season and will certainly test Italy’s back line.
While Italy are expected to get the better of Turkey in the opening fixture, their chances of finishing second behind Italy look strong. The Turks will be confident of qualifying following an assured qualification campaign and plenty of quality throughout the squad.
You can currently get Italy and Turkey in a dual forecast at a best price of 5/2.
Euro 2020 Group A preview: what the experts say
Tactical expert Raj Chohan has highlighted the strengths of Italian attacker Federico Chiesa and has tipped him to be the talisman for The Azzurri at the Euro’s. After being the bright spark in an otherwise bleak season for Juventus, Chiesa has ‘showed he can carry a team.’
Martin Laurence of WhoScored highlighted some interesting value in the Italy’s top goalscorer market: 'I think there is a cheeky bet on the top goalscorer for Italy if we look towards Jorginho who could be on pens. I don't see them scoring a huge amount of goals but that would rely on them not going as far as maybe they are being billed to.'
Jorginho to be Italy’s top goalscorer is currently available at a best price of 25/1.
Mark O’Haire is backing Italy and Turkey in a dual forecast after ruling out Switzerland due to their packed travel schedule, ‘Switzerland would be the ones I could be opposing, they've got a dreadful schedule to go to Baku, back to Rome and back to Baku, a 5 hour flight across two time zones’
While Wales will provide a threat to the rest of the group, Martin Laurence believes that injury issues could see them come up short with the likes of Ramsey, Allen and Davies lacking fitness.
Euro 2020 Group A odds:
Italy are clear favourites to qualify among the Euro 2021 Group A odds at a best price of 1/18 despite being as short as 1/40 with some bookmakers.
