Betting Tip: Charlton +0 Asian Handicap
League 1 gets a live showing for the tea-time fixture and it’s a big one between two sides who will no doubt have aspirations of promotion. Arguably it’s Charlton who are the better prepared, they’ve had a decent summer and have aimed for continuity and consistency to aid their title tilt. Nigel Adkins has had some time now to get his feet firmly under the table and all the players know what he’s about.
To be fair, Adkins had an immediate steadying effect on the club, losing just one of his ten games in charge last season. He’s managed to tie down loan signing Jayden Stockley on a permanent deal as well as bring back classy centre half Akin Famewo who should form a strong partnership with leader Jason Pearce. They’ll be backed up by one of the best third tier keepers from last season in Craig MacGillivray. Their midfield looks to have a good blend now and winger Diallang Jaiyesimi adds much needed flair on the flank.
Sheffield Wednesday were relegated on the final day of the season but did well on the whole under Darren Moore, many wrote them off pre-season but at least they made a fist of it. Having said that, there have been mass changes at Hillsborough this season. Although Moore remains in charge there have been 24 players who have left the club and 11 signings brought through the door. The standard of signings has been ok considering their situation but with almost a new look XI it may take a while for Wednesday to get going.
So here we have two well matched sides on paper but one side has their house in order whilst the other is probably a month behind schedule, and the team that has their house in order is also at home, playing in front of a bouncing Valley. I have to be with Charlton for those reasons and quotes of 8/5 look attractive about the Addicks. I’ll opt to go a touch more cautious because the prices allow and take 11/13 on the hosts with a scratch 0 start on the asian handicap, here our stakes will be refunded if it ends in a draw.
