Leicester City vs Manchester City Stats

  • Manchester City have won two of the last three Community Shields.
  • Leicester lost their most recent Community Shield, in 2016, against Manchester United.

Betting Tip: Kelechi Iheanacho to Score Anytime

Many see the Community Shield as a glorified friendly, but it can kick someone’s season off with a trophy in the cabinet. Stakes will be raised with the Premier League season kicking off next week but the starting line-ups may not be full strength given many have only recently returned to training after a gruelling Euros.

Leicester will be without key centre half Wesley Fofana which is a big blow, he suffered a terrible leg injury in a friendly against Villareal. Having said that, they did have fewer players involved in the summer tournament and should be a touch fresher than their opponents. That has been reflected in their price though, it’s rare you’d have Manchester City around even-money in this fixture.

With the likes of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Ferran Torres, Oleksandr Zinchenko all yet to play in pre-season it could be an understrength City side with youngsters Samuel Edozie and Cole Palmer in contention to start.

The basic markets look simply too hard to decipher without knowing starting line-ups so I’ll chuck a dart on two anytime goalscorers, both of whom are in line to start.

Kelechi Iheanacho was on fire in the second half of last season, he also had the 2nd best goals per minutes played ratio in the league and he will always have a point to prove against his old employers. The Nigerian hitman looks a nice price at 2/1 anytime

Betting Tip: Riyad Mahrez to Score Anytime

Riyad Mahrez is another player up against his old side and he’s an even bigger price to bag in 90 minutes. The Algerian has been red hot this pre season, scoring and providing plenty and will be fresh and raring to go. He has the chance to nail down a starting spot if he can make a mark early in this campaign and I’m expecting him to shine on Saturday.
