Betting Tip: West Ham-1 Asian Handicap
West Ham have started this season where they left off, playing with excellent balance, confidence and sheer effectiveness under the experienced David Moyes. Moyes still probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves, he’s made what was a perennial underachiever gain stability and continuity in approach and the players are obviously responding to his methods in the right way.
They’ve been excellent at home under him and with the red hot Michail Antonio back in the fold there’s even more of a goal threat. Given the impact Jesse Lingard had on the Hammers in the second half of last season he’s not even been missed with the likes of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals stepping up to the plate.
Defensively Moyes has always had a good record, but they’ve even been able to concede three in their opening two games and still win by a comfortable margin in both games. They look the form team in the early exchanges and come up against a Crystal Palace side who still look devoid of craft and creativity in attacking areas, they’ve yet to score in league and cup and it’s no surprise they’re a long price here.
There was plenty of question marks around the appointment of Patrick Vieira pre-season as Palace looked to change tact and go with a younger squad. It’s going to take time for such a shift to pay fruition but the pressure will start to come if results don’t see an upturn he could be gone before Christmas. They have Spurs, Liverpool, Leicester, Arsenal and Manchester City to play before November, it could get worse before it gets better for the Eagles.
West Ham are fair favourites but are short enough at around 4/7, one option we can take is the hosts with a -1 start on the asian handicap which pays odds-against. Here we’d be paid out if the Hammers win by 2 or more goals but if they win by the single goal we have the insurance of our money back.
