Both Teams to score - Yes

It doesn’t take an expert to realise the defensive shortcomings of both Watford and Norwich in the Premier League this season, but let’s delve a little deeper into the stats with WhoScored.com.

The Hornets are still yet to register a clean sheet this season, while the Canaries have kept just one clean sheet away from home. This came back in October against Burnley - the only team in the league with a worse goalscoring record than Dean Smith’s side.

And if you wanted any more convincing, Both Teams to Score (Yes) has played out in eight of the last nine games involving Watford, who have the worst home defence in the league in terms of goals conceded per game (2.2). Norwich, meanwhile, have the worst away from home (2.5).

Over 3.5 Cards

We’re not sure if this is the real reason for it, but a rivalry stemming from their proximity in league position (Championship and Premier League) over recent years appears to have added some spice to this fixture, generating 39 cards in just eight meetings at an average of nearly five per match.

Emmanuel Dennis to Score Anytime

Only Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Jamie Vardy have scored more goals in the Premier League this season than Emmanuel Dennis, signed by Watford last summer from Club Brugge.

Interestingly, given that Vardy’s nine-goal total features a pair of braces, only Salah and Jota have scored in more matches – Dennis’ eight have each come in separate matches. One of these eight matches was the reverse fixture at Carrow Road back in September, when Dennis only needed 72 minutes to find the net in 3-1 away win.

This is relevant because Dennis – who has had a direct hand in 13 goals (five non-penalty assists) – has scored in three of the last four at Vicarage Road in which he has completed the 90 minutes.

With Watford at the halfway point (19 played), should Dennis continue at the same rate he would register 26 direct goal involvements across the season – a figure only bettered by four players in their debut season for a Premier League club (Fernando Torres, Kevin Phillips, Sergio Aguero and Salah).

Samir to be shown a card

An even more recent recruit than Dennis at Watford is central defender Samir, who is expected to make a similar dent on the stats page – albeit for different reasons. He was booked on his debut at Newcastle last week, which would have come as no surprise to those who tracked his near six-year career in Italy with Udinese.

Over the last four seasons, he made 79 league starts and collected 21 yellow cards, which would average out at 10 yellow cards over a 38-game season. Continuing with this average trend, Samir would be on around nine yellows had he played in Watford’s 19 games. No player in the Premier League has more than seven yellow cards so far this season.

But has he changed his ways this season? Well, probably not, given that he topped the list of fouls per game for centre backs in Italy (1.9) before completing his transfer to Watford earlier this month.
