Cameroon vs Egypt Tips
Betting Tip: Both Teams to Score
Rewind back to the 2017 AFCON final and it was Cameroon who prevailed 2-1 over Egypt courtesy of a Vincent Aboubakar winner. The pair meet again but this time in the final four and despite being five years on it’s the influential Aboubakar is the current tournament top scorer with six goals.
These two were well fancied pre-tournament what with Cameroon playing in their own backyard and Egypt having one of the world's best in Mo Salah. It’s the hosts who are the favourites to progress though, they’re as short as 1/2 to qualify with the North Africans priced up at 8/5 to get to the final. Interestingly though it’s the outsiders who are ranked just higher in the FIFA official ranking system.
Defensively there’s no doubt that Egypt have been the stronger side, conceding just twice but they were against stronger looking teams in Nigeria and Morocco so they may give up a couple of chances to this top heavy Cameroon side. The Lions have been free-scoring by AFCON standards scoring 11 goals but strangely all of those have come from just two players in Aboubakar and Karl Toko-Ekambi.
Egypt also boast the likes of Stuttgart frontman Omar Marmoush, Galatasaray striker Mostafa Mohamed and the mercurial Trezeguet from Aston Villa, there is clear attacking quality there and Cameroon may give more space to exploit than their previous opposition as the pressure is on them to take the game to Egypt.
With the home sides scoring record along with the individual quality of Salah and a decent supporting cast there is potential for both teams to score here and it looks a tasty price at 11/8 to oblige.
