PGA Championship First Round Leader

Niall Lyons' Selection PGA Championship First Round Leader

I'm looking for players here in round one who have a habit of hitting plenty of greens and who could put together a strong first round without necessarily being confident about contending the event. Corey Conners doesn't fit the bracket of someone who isn't capable of winning as he has shown real ability in majors lately, but he could be one to side with during round one also.

He has managed five top 20s in his last six majors and can clearly raise his game for these occasions. He ranks 10th in GIR on tour and has gone well lately with two top 7s in his last three round one efforts. I mentioned in the podcast he could be one of the shorter hitters who would have the long game to still compete here should he manage to hole a few putts across the week.

He is capable on any given day, but stringing four days of good putting together remains a task. He did exactly that last year at Kiawah Island when ranking 4th on the greens on day one on route to landing the first round lead by shooting 5-under and two clear of the likes of Koepka and Hovland. If he has another hot day on the greens he may just land that prize for the second year running.

George Gamble's Everton vs Crystal Palace Selection

Betting Tip: BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals

Everton lost their last home fixture against Brentford after seeing two straight red cards, but they were still able to score twice and they’ll hope they can get the better of a Crystal Palace side who have nothing but pride to play for.

The hosts have scored in nine of their 12 home matches since the turn of the year and they have to go for it, as pinning their survival hopes on a final day victory away to Arsenal could prove disastrous. I think Everton can score a couple but I just don’t trust them not to concede.

Frank Lampard’s side have been vulnerable to attacks from out wide, particularly against sides playing a 4-3-3 formation - which it looks as though the visitors could deploy. They’ve already conceded goals to Phil Foden, Harvey Barnes and Yoane Wissa lately and they all occupied a place on the flank.

Eze could be a shout for anytime goalscorer but I think Everton wins whilst conceding and so I’ll play it a bit safer by having a point on both teams scoring and at least three goals being scored.
