Belgium to win & BTTS against Poland

The world’s second ranked team and last year’s fourth place Nations League finishers come into their second group match this time around under some pressure after falling to a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to the Netherlands on Friday.

Back in Brussels once more, Roberto Martinez’s side will entertain a Poland side who started with a 2-1 win, albeit against a second-string Wales team as Robert Page protected his best players ahead of the World Cup qualification win over Ukraine.

Belgium will be without record goalscorer Romelu Lukaku after he injured himself in a collision with Manchester City’s Nathan Ake in Friday’s match. 

Poland, spearheaded by number nine and captain Robert Lewandowski, will be confident of scoring against an ageing Belgium defence likely to include Toby Alderweireld (33) and Jan Vertonghen (35) once more, but the onus is on Belgium to get their campaign back on track with a win.

Netherlands to win against Wales

The Netherlands' 4-1 victory over Belgium extended Louis van Gaal's unbeaten start to his third spell as Dutch boss to 10 matches and they will be confident of beating a Welsh side who recently came through an emotionally draining World Cup clinching qualifier against the Ukraine on Sunday.

Robert Page may well revert to a number of the fringe players, while van Gaal will be hoping to take control of the group at the halfway stage. Memphis Depay was the star man against Belgium, scoring his 40th and 41st international goals, and he could be the key to unlocking the Welsh in Cardiff.

Under 2.5 Goals in Republic of Ireland vs Ukraine

Republic of Ireland have found it really difficult to score of late, particularly in home matches, while you could forgive Ukraine for a lack of energy and motivation for this game – given everything that’s happening at home and their heart-breaking World Cup elimination at the hands of Wales.

With the exception of a 2-2 home draw with Belgium in March, Stephen Kenny’s side’s five other home results since the culmination of the last Nations League campaign read 0-1 (Luxembourg), 1-1 (Azerbaijan), 1-1 (Serbia), 0-0 (Portugal) and 1-0 (Lithuania) – all featuring fewer than 2.5 goals.

They fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Armenia on Saturday despite enjoying 64% possession. The Republic have played 11 games in the competition since its inception, scoring just twice.
