West Ham United vs Manchester City Stats

  • The Citizens are undefeated across their last 18 away Premier League matches
  • West Ham are winless in their last nine league games against reigning champions
  • Both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings

Betting Tip: Manchester City to win & BTTS

This is a really exciting matchup and as we saw towards the back end of last season, West Ham United certainly have the tools to hurt the visitors. David Moyes will hope that his side can capitalise on any possible lack of match sharpness given City only played two pre-season friendlies prior to their defeat in the Community Shield last weekend.

However, write Pep Guardiola’s side at your peril. They are unbeaten across their last 18 Premier League away games and have not tasted defeat against West Ham in any of the previous 13 league meetings - only against Fulham do they boast a longer undefeated run.

It remains to be seen how City line up in defence now that Zinchenko has left the club and Aymeric Laporte is out through injury. They look a bit more vulnerable at the back and they are prone to the occasional howler in a defensive capacity.

I certainly see both teams scoring, and even with minimal preparation ahead of the new campaign, City always seem to find a way and I'll side with them edging this one.

Betting Tip: Erling Haaland to score two or more goals

A lot has been made of the chances he missed in the Community Shield. It’s of course surprising but never judge someone of Erling Haaland’s quality on one match. What I really liked was when he should have scored and instead hit the bar, he simply turned, walked away and had a smile on his face as if to say “Yes that was bad, but you wait until i’m up and running”.

He showed signs of pure brilliance and once he’s fully match fit he is going to be incredible. I think City as a team will have learned quite a bit even from that one match against Liverpool and I'm sure Pep will have shown them the number of times they could’ve played Haaland in during that game.

He will get chances here at the London Stadium and I'm going to have a smaller play on the Norwegian notching himself a brace. He has been involved in seven goals in his last three games played on the opening weekend of the season which include braces in both of the last two seasons on the opening games.
