Norwich vs Birmingham

BTTS at 10/11 with Bet365

Only one of the all Championship affairs in the first round of the EFL Cup over the past two seasons has not seen both teams find the net.

This could just be a coincidence, but I think it depicts the attitude of second tier clubs to these fixtures. The Carabao Cup is not a priority of many clubs but an opportunity for competitive gametime which is why we often see rotated teams and high scoring affairs.

This clash at Carrow Road certainly fits this mould which is why backing BTTS appeals at 10/11 with Bet365.

Cardiff City v Portsmouth

BTTS at 17/20 with Unibet

Portsmouth begin their EFL Cup campaign with a trip to Championship club Cardiff City as they look to build on consecutive draws in their two opening games in League One.

The hosts supremo Steve Morrison’s first full season in management got off to a dream start as the Bluebirds beat title favourites Norwich, his side have since lost at Reading though. It remains to be seen how strong of an XI Morrison will field here but with a largely inexperienced squad, goals could be plentiful.

19:30 Tuesday

Charlton vs QPR

BTTS at 3/4 with Bet365

When it comes to this competition, QPR’s first round clashes have been pretty goal laden in recent seasons, especially against lower league opposition. Last campaign, their trip to Leyton Orient saw BTTS land, the season before they lost by one goal in a five goal thriller at Plymouth and it ended 3-3 with Bristol City in the 19/20 season.

Mick Beale’s first competitive game in charge of the R’s was not exactly a thriller, but his second featured five goals and with an opportunity to rotate his lineup on Tuesday we will likely see more at Charlton.
