Freiburg vs Dortmund - Dortmund Win

Freiburg have had a good start to the season with a 4-0 win away to Augsburg and currently sit second in the table. They were clinical going forward and managed to create 19 clear cut chances and registered seven shots on target. They were fairly active in the transfer window and added a few quality players to their squad from Bundesliga rivals, including Matthias Ginter from Borussia Monchengladbach. They face their first difficult task of the season when Edin Terzic’s Dortmund visit the Europa Park.

Dortmund also had a decent start to the season, beating Bayern Leverkusen 1-0 at home. A Marco Reus goal was enough for the win on the day, but Edin Terzic won’t be happy about how open the game was for the majority until a last-minute red card for Lukas Hradecky changed the complexion of the match. They had a busy transfer window, bringing in the likes of Niklas Sule, Karim Adeyemi and Sebastien Haller but are said to be in the market once again after the news of Sebastien Haller’s medical condition. Even without Haller leading the line, Dortmund still have a talented squad and are expected to compete at the top end once more. Despite Freiburg’s strong start to the season we expect Dortmund to have enough quality to come away with all three points.

Watford vs Burnley - Watford Win

Rob Edward’s Watford career has got off to a steady start with a win and a draw under his belt from the first two games. They beat a resilient Sheffield United 1-0 in their opening fixture and drew away from home to a new look West Brom team who are eyeing promotion. They have looked good going forward so far but are at risk of losing two of their front three with Premier League clubs circling around Ismaïla Sarr and João Pedro. If they can keep them, they are sure to be one of the favourites.

Likewise, Vincent Kompany got his Championship career off to a decent start. They beat Huddersfield away from home in the opening fixture of the 2022/23 Championship season and drew to Luton at home. They dominated possession in both games, with around 70% on both occasions, but failed to create clear cut chances. They have really lost out this window and are a completely new look squad following the departure of James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil, Maxwel Cornet and more. You could argue they have had a slightly easier start to the season than Watford and have struggled to create chances so far. With this in mind and the fact that Watford will have the home advantage, we think Watford will win this one.

Osasuna vs Sevilla - Sevilla Win

Osasuna are set to kick off the La Liga season with a visit from Sevilla on Friday evening. They have had a good pre-season winning four of their seven pre-season games, including a 2-1 win away at Feyenoord. They finished mid table last year and will be hoping their signings this year will help them improve on this. Most notably they have signed Moi Gómez from Villareal for over £1.5 million, he should slot into their starting 11 and add some quality to their attacking line.

Sevilla had a good season last year, qualifying for the Champions League and they will be hoping for more of the same this year. They have had a tough pre-season which saw them lose 6-0 to Arsenal in the Emirates Cup final and 1-0 to Leicester a week later, and they will be hoping not to take this form into the new season. They have made some good signings this year, adding Alex Telles on loan from Manchester United, Isco from Real Madrid and Marcao from Galatasaray to their squad. Sevilla have a much stronger squad and we expect them to get over their poor pre-season form and kickstart their season with a win as the new recruits settle in.
