Sheffield United vs Sunderland Tips

Betting Tip: Both teams to score no

The ‘Blades’ have played some excellent football this season but have secured just a solitary win in their opening three league games. They come into this one off the back of a 2-2 away to Middlesbrough meaning 50% of their goal tally came in just a single match.

The hosts have struggled to take their chances and whilst they’ve brought in creative players, they have no reliable striker to lead the line. To make matters worse, they could be without Billy Sharp for the arrival of Sunderland.

Both teams scoring has been a bit of a rarity at Bramall Lane recently with six of the last eight league games to take place there failing to see both teams score. That’s also the trend when Sunderland travel to the Steel City as both teams to score no has landed in the last five clashes between these two.

This game should be an interesting one but I think, given they won 12 of their 14 Championship fixtures last season in which they opened the scoring, Sheffield United will try to keep the game tight and grind out a victory if possible.

This stadium scarcely sees both teams find the back of the net and I’ll have a point on that being the case here.

Betting Tip: Sunderland win

Sunderland are a very generous 4/1 to leave Sheffield with all three points but I think they should be a little bit shorter than that. Yes, Sheffield United have played some positive football and will be disappointed that they haven’t been able to earn wins out of those performances. But it’s largely due to not having a dependable striker. Rhian Brewster looks set to lead the line on Wednesday night and he is far from prolific.

Sunderland on the other hand may have made one of the signings of the summer when they took Ellis Simms on loan from Premier League outfit Everton. The 21-year-old has scored three goals in just 150 minutes of action so far this season and it’s clear that he possesses talent in abundance.

He put pen-to-paper on his first professional deal in summer 2019 after scoring a ridiculous 32 goals in 21 league matches for the ‘Toffees’ under-18’s and it would appear he is progressing well.

The ‘Black Cats’ fashion plenty of chances and are averaging 6.3 shots on target per match so far this term - the highest in the Championship. I’m very surprised the hosts are being backed at around 4/5 as I don’t believe they should be odds on favourites, instead, I’ll be playing half a point on Ellis Simms starring once again in a Sunderland victory at 4/1.
