Young Boys to beat Anderlecht

Young Boys are unbeaten in the league this season with three wins and two draws and currently sit top of the league with last year’s champions Zurich currently sitting bottom. They will be hopeful they can reclaim the league title after losing out last year and will be hoping they can progress further in Europa than they did last year too. They finished bottom of their Champions’ League group last campaign, beating only Manchester United, and will be looking for a European cup run should they qualify.

Anderlecht have had a decent start to the season and sit joint second after three wins and a loss. They progressed to this stage of the competition easily with a 5-0 win on aggregate vs Paide, with new signing Fabio Silva scoring in both legs. They struggled in their first away game of the season, not managing a shot on target, but went on to beat Sint Truidense in their next and they will be hoping they duplicate this form at the Wankdorf Stadium.

Young Boys have had a good start to the season and are flying high as a team. They are also playing in front of a home crowd on a European night and should justify favouritism to take a lead in the second leg clinch this one.

West Ham to beat Viborg and over 3.5 goals

David Moyes won’t be happy with the start his side have got off to this season after back-to-back loses that have left his side second bottom on goal difference. Even worse, they are yet to score a goal with a 2-0 home loss to City on the opening day followed by a 1-0 loss to newly promoted Nottingham Forest. They had an excellent season last year, finishing 7th in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League, and they will be looking to really kickstart their season when Viborg visit the Olympic Stadium.

Viborg have got off their 22/23 season to a steady start with three wins and two losses. They have been good going forward, scoring nine goals in their opening five fixtures but have also leaked seven goals in that time. They progressed to the play-off round of the Conference League by beating B36 5-1 on aggregate after a dominant 3-0 home win. They also notably beat Copenhagen 4-2 in the third week of the season and were but have struggled to keep consistent performances so far. West Ham have a much stronger squad and are at home and should win this easily but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Viborg contribute to a high scoring game.

20:00 Thursday

Fiorentina to beat FC Twente

Fiorentina’s first game of the Serie A season got off to a dramatic start with a 95th minute winner at home to newly promoted Cremonese. They dominated the game for a large portion with 75% possession and 11 shots on target and would feel like they deserved the win on the opening day. They had a good year last season and qualified for European competitions for the first time since the 2016/17 season where they topped their Europa League group and reached the round of 32. They have added some quality signings to their squad, including Luka Jovic on loan from Real Madrid and will be hopeful for this season.

Twente have also got off to a good start, with two wins in their opening two games without conceding a goal. They beat NEC 1-0 away from home on the opening day then demolished Fortuna Sittard 3-0 at home the following week. They were dominant vs Cukaricki in the third round of Conference League qualifying and beat them 7-2 on aggregate to progress to the final play-off round. Twente face a tough challenge against a bolstered Fiorentina side and the Serie A side’s odds on price looks justifiable.
