Liverpool vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Betting Tip: Over 3.5 Goals

The last 0-0 draw between these two sides occurred almost four years ago to the day. In the 10 games since, there have been 37 goals. However, if we look at the last five games between the two teams, there has been an average of 4.4 goals.

City are in rampant form this season and have 33 goals in their nine outings. Haaland leads the way for goals scored having netted three hat-tricks on his way to 15 goals this term in the English top-flight. He missed a number of opportunities against Liverpool in the Community Shield and you wouldn’t bet against him righting that wrong this time around.

Only City and Arsenal (23) have more goals than the Reds (20) this term, though the 9-0 win over Bournemouth certainly boosts that particular metric. Despite their struggles in attack, Liverpool do possess a forward to rival Haaland in terms of chance-getting.

Darwin Nunez’s expected goals per 90 average of 0.83 can only be bettered by the City No. 9 (0.99) and the injury to Luis Diaz strengthens the chance that the former Benfica man starts on Sunday. If he does, expect lots of chances falling his way and maybe another goal.

Betting Tip: Liverpool 30+ Booking Points

Liverpool tend to top the fair play table every season. Their reluctance to commit fouls has cost them goals this season, with Jordan Henderson failing to bring down Anthony Martial against Manchester United and Gabriel Martinelli in the loss to Arsenal. Had he committed a tactical foul and picked up a booking, counter-attacks would’ve been stopped in their tracks.

Against City though, the Reds are typically much savvier. In three of their last four clashes with City, they have had a minimum of three players carded.

Injuries to a number of players mean Klopp cannot freshen things up as much as he’d like and you can expect tired legs in what could be an end-to-end game. It is the perfect storm for bookings.
