Southampton vs Arsenal Stats

  • Four of the seven goals Southampton have conceded at home have been scored by central midfielders.
  • Six of Arsenal’s seven away matches across all competitions have all produced fewer than three goals.
  • Martin Odegaard scored against Southampton last season and has taken at least two shots in three of his four EPL away games.

Southampton vs Arsenal Tips

Betting Tip: Arsenal and under 3.5 goals

Southampton ended a run of five games without a win by beating south coast rivals Bournemouth at the Vitality and will have given them a huge confidence boost as it also marked their first Premier League clean sheet of the season.

But they welcome Arsenal to St. Mary’s and the Gunners are absolutely flying. They’re top of the table and are showing the trait of potential champions by winning even when they aren’t playing that well. They showcased that trait last time out as they beat Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road and were lucky not to have conceded.

Mikel Arteta will be aware that this match could be a potential banana skin but he’s not the kind of manager to accept a drop off in performance. He’ll want his side to stand up, be strong and get the win here, and I think they can do just that.

Southampton are yet to lose at home by more than a single goal margin. I looked at the hosts on a +1.5 Asian handicap but there was no value. I do think Arsenal win the game here but it’s unlikely to be a high-scoring encounter and I'll back the visitors to win with the game seeing fewer than four goals in total.

Arsenal & Under 3.5 goals - 1.5pts @ 7/5

Betting Tip: Martin Odegaard anytime goalscorer

The Arsenal Skipper has been instrumental to how they play this season. In nine Premier League appearances he has five goal involvements and I like the price on him getting on the scoresheet at some point in this match.

Attacking central midfielders have found a lot of joy when playing at this venue so far this campaign. Of the seven goals the Saints have conceded on home soil, four have been scored by central midfielders and the Norwegian can find some joy here.

He’s already scored twice on the coast this season as his brace helped Arsenal to a 3-0 win away at Bournemouth.

Arsenal lost this fixture 1-0 last season thanks to a masterclass from Fraser Forster. In that match, the number 8 hit three shots and was incredibly unlucky not to score. He’s averaging 2.5 shots per game on the road this term and I like the 3/1 on Martin Odegaard hitting the back of the net at some point in this clash.

Martin Odegaard anytime - 0.5pts @ 3/1
