World Cup Group G

Mark O’Haire kicked off the Group G discussion on the oddschecker World Cup Betting Show by highlighting the strength of Brazil’s favouritism in the group winner market. 

He said: “Brazil have topped the group at every World Cup they've been to since 1978 so let's assume they do so again. For second place, it likely comes down to the meeting between Serbia and Switzerland on 2nd December which could be one of the games of the competition.”

The other team in the group is Cameroon, who played well at the AFCON before losing to Mo Salah’s Egypt on penalties in the semi-finals.

“Cameroon are an interesting team,” said Raj Chohan. “They have Zambo Anguissa in midfield who's been fantastic for Napoli this season and up front they've got a bit of firepower too - Choupo-Moting has been in good form for Bayern and Mbeumo of Brentford is always a threat.

“Aboubakar has a good record for Cameroon and you've got Toko Ekambi too. They've got the goal threat to spring a surprise but I'd just about back Serbia to qualify with the forwards they've got and the delivery of Filip Kostić - one of Juventus' best players this season.”

 

And which way is O’Haire leaning? He said: “You might remember the meeting between them four years ago in Russia, politically it's very charged and there's a lot of bad blood between the two. I give Switzerland the edge, I just think they're further through their development phase. 

“Serbia are a lot of fun, they'll get forward and score goals. But their best individuals are stacked in the  forward areas. There’s also some concern as to whether Mitrovic and Vlahovic are going to be fit for the first game.

“I think Switzerland can score against Serbia and are defensively sound enough to progress, but it all comes down to that final game and who can handle the pressure better.”
