After a draw in their opening fixture, Robert Page's Wales side take on Iran, who suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat at the hands of England in their opening Group fixture.

Wales vs Iran Stats:

  • Iran will likely force Wales wide and as such, plenty of corners can be seen for the Dragons
  • Iran looked out of their depth against England and Wales will be going all out for a crucial win
  • Wales are unbeaten in their last six games against teams from outside of Europe

Wales vs Iran Prediction:

Betting Tip: Wales -1 Corner Handicap

Wales are presented with the opportunity to win their first match at a World Cup since 1958. They earned a draw in their opening match against the USA thanks to a Gareth Bale penalty and they’ll be looking for him to have a big match once again.

A front three of Daniel James, Kieffer Moore and the aforementioned Bale is likely to be seen with Neco Williams and Connor Roberts operating as wing-backs and trying to cause overloads. They’ll want to flood forward in numbers to try and unlock an Iran defence that will inevitably sit deep and try to keep the ball as far away from the danger zone as possible.

England racked up eight corners against Iran without reply and Wales are good enough to apply relentless pressure. It should also be a bit of a tighter encounter, and I really like the evens available on Wales covering a -1 corner handicap.

Wales -1 Corner Handicap - 2pts @ 1/1

Betting Tip: Wales win

I think there is plenty of value to be had on Rob Page's side clinching victory and that will be my second play in this clash. After a half-time dressing down from their manager against the USA, they came back out fighting and they know the level they need to be at to secure victory.

Iran were pretty woeful against England, despite scoring twice thanks to some defensive mishaps from the Three Lions, and so long as Wales can keep their concentration defensively, they can create and take enough of their goal scoring opportunities to get their noses in front.

Wales have scored in 13 of their last 14 outings overall and they’ve scored against some much tougher opponents than the one they will be facing at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.

Anything over even money looks like a good play for me and so I'll back Wales to claim their first proper World Cup win at 11/10.

Wales win - 1pt @ 11/10
