Tunisia vs Australia – Tunisia

Tunisia surprised many in their first game vs Denmark and will be coming into this game looking for a win. They looked compact and well coached against one of the tournament’s dark horses and actually looked the more likely to score throughout. They kept hitting the Danes on the break and made it hard for them to get a good string of passes together. 

The Australians started the game against France incredibly well and would have been dreaming of landing an upset after going 1-0 up early on. However, France’s quality took over and the Australians really struggled with the French wingers running in behind. Tunisia play a similar way and we think the Aussies will struggle with it once again. Tunisia to win this one. 

Poland vs Saudi Arabia – Poland 

Saudi Arabia come off the back of one of the World Cup’s biggest ever upsets. They were physical against the Argentinians, winning both the mental and physical game. However, we do feel they rode their luck a little with three disallowed goals keeping them in the game. They displayed good quality with their two goals so they will definitely be a threat for the rest of the group. 

The Polish will be disappointed with their first game and will be looking for a response. Lewandowski missed a penalty which will only motivate him, so the Saudi defenders will need to be ready for the best possible version of the Barcelona striker. 

The Poles are a more physical team than Argentina so Saudi Arabia’s physical game plan won’t work as well as it did in their last game. If we look at both squads, Poland have more quality and should come out on top. We don’t think it will be pretty but a Poland win for this leg. 

France vs Denmark – France 

France were very impressive in their opening fixtured and showed why they are one of the favourites to win this year. Mbappe and Dembele’s pace caused the Aussie defence real problems all night. Paired with Giroud’s excellent link up play, they look like the real deal. It will be interesting to see how they fare against a side with more quality who play in a low block. We think they cruise through the group. 

The Danes were slightly less impressive vs Tunisia, a game many though they should have won going into it. After their excellent Euros campaign, many backed them as a team to watch this year, however their performance the other day does not support that. They looked like they hadn’t played together before and struggled to really threaten the Tunisian goal. They looked like a team playing without cohesion, so for that reason we predict an easy France Victory. 

Argentina vs Mexico – Argentina 

Argentina will be mortified with their last game. If they only managed to stay on side they would have gone in to the break 4-0 up. They let Saudi Arabia get back into it and were bullied all over the pitch. They will come into this game with determination and a new mindset, knowing they have to win it. This could make them dangerous and their free flowing play could be on full display. 

The Mexicans would have been slightly disappointed not to have come away with all three points vs Poland. They were the better team for a large proportion of the game and actually looked like a well drilled team. Despite having less star power than most, they looked good in the final third and were creating good chances which, on another day, could have gone in. With Argentina’s absolute need to win this one, we think they’ll turn on their A game and beat the Mexicans comfortably.
