Wolves vs West Ham – Wolves 

Both these sides had a dismal first half of the season and are now facing relegation. Wolves are currently in the relegation zone but remain only one point off West Ham in 17th and safety, so it’s fair to say that this one is a six-pointer. 

Pressure is mounting on David Moyes and after four losses in their last five, fans are starting to call for his head. Wolves had the same problem earlier on in the season but have been proactive in appointing former Real Madrid manager, Julen Lopetegui to the helm to steer them from danger.  

He got off to a good start, winning his first two matches vs Gillingham and Everton, but crashed out of the Carabao Cup on penalties on Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest.

Nonetheless, Lopetegui’s appointment has breathed new life into Wolves and in front of a packed out Molineux, we think they get the three points and send West Ham into the relegation zone.

Brighton vs Liverpool – Liverpool 

Brighton and Liverpool have had contrasting starts to the season but now only sit within a point of each other. Under Graham Potter, the Seagulls got off to a fast start and were competing around the top four for the first few weeks. Chelsea came calling but Roberto Di Zerbi has done a good job since coming in, keeping them within touching distance of the European places. 

Liverpool, on the other hand, got off to an extremely slow start for their standards which all but ended their title challenge in the first few weeks of the season. They have been clawing their way up the league ever since and now sit only seven points off 3rd placed Newcastle with their sights set on Champions League qualification. 

Both teams come into this one in decent from, although Liverpool were humiliated by Brentford in their last outing. We think Klopp will demand a performance from his team and they will win comfortably.

Nottingham Forest vs Leicester – Nottingham Forest 

The third leg of our FavFour features the East Midlands derby and we think this one could be a close game. Both sides had poor starts to the season but have started to turn it around. They sit on equal points in the league so the winner of this will get not just bragging rights but put distance between themselves and the drop. 

Forest come into this in the better form. They have lost only once in their last five in the league and were triumphant on penalties against Wolves on Wednesday night to progress to the Carabao Cup semi-final. They will be riding this high coming into the derby and the fact that Leicester have lost three on the bounce only cements this pick. A Forest win for this one.

Everton vs Southampton – Everton 

The final leg of our FavFour features a relegation battle between Everton and Southampton. Both teams are in dire positions and under the real threat of relegation to the Championship this season. 

Southampton probably in the worst position of all, sitting rock bottom of the league after losing six on the bounce in the league. However, if they were to win this game they would be on level points with Everton and with a much improved chance of survival. 

They beat Man City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday evening and remain in the FA Cup, so they could see this game as the one that changes their fortunes for the rest of the season. 

Everton are also in the relegation zone but are level on points with West Ham in 17th so still have hope. Like Southampton, they come into this game in incredibly poor form with four losses in their last five but will take confidence from their point on the road at the Etihad at the end of December. 

With both teams fighting for their lives down the bottom of the league, we can see this one being an extremely scrappy affair that could be settled by a single goal. Everton have the stronger squad add we’ll back them to step up on the day. An away win to lift Everton out of the bottom three.
