Football Accumulator Tips: Tuesday’s 5/1 Acca covering the Carabao Cup Semi-final

Accrington Stanley vs Boreham Wood – Accrington Stanley 

The first leg of our Tuesday treble has League One Accrington Stanley host National League side Boreham Wood. Despite Stanley struggling in the league, hovering only a point above relegation in 20th, we do think they will have too much quality for Boreham Wood and get this one over the line. 

The National League side are currently 12th in the table and have looked unreliable all season. They have won only once in their last five games and although they forced a replay with a 1-1 win at home last time out, we can’t see them achieving the same feat. A home win for the League One side for this one. 

Cheltenham vs Sheffield Wednesday – Sheffield Wednesday 

The second leg of our treble features high flying Sheffield Wednesday take on struggling Cheltenham. Darren Moore has really got his side playing in recent weeks and he has seen his side climb to 2nd place off the back of five wins on the bounce. As well as a 2-1 win vs Newcastle in the FA Cup, it is fair to say Wednesday are playing with real confidence at the moment. 

They visit a Cheltenham side who are struggling with consistency this year. After four consecutive losses they sit 18th in League One, only a few points off safety, so will be needing to pick up as many points as possible before the end of the season. However, unfortunately for them, we can only see a Wednesday win for this one. 

Southampton vs Newcastle – Newcastle 

The final match of our treble sees Southampton take on Newcastle in the first leg of Carabao Cup semi-final. Newcastle are playing in the form of their lives since their takeover and they have solidified their position in the top four. However, with three draws in their last five, they seem to have taken their foot of the pedal in recent weeks. 

Southampton have been struggling all season in the league and run the real risk of relegation. Although their league form is not great, the Saints have performed fairly well in cup competitions and remain in both domestic cups. They beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in the FA Cup then Manchester City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, so they will take confidence from the fact they performed previously. 

Despite this, we can’t see the Saints causing Newcastle too many problems and think the Geordies will take a winning advantage into the second leg of the semi final.
