GYTO Thursday Notebook Double pays 11/2.
13:50 Sandown
There might only be five runners heading to post for this but it is still a good race and I’m confident CORRIGEEN ROCK is the one to beat. He did well over hurdles but has already taken his form up a notch over fences winning at Kelso before following up impressively over C&D back in December staying on strongly. He really looked suited by this stiff finish that day and while he has been beaten since I think that is good form with Xcitations and down 1lb following a wind op he is going to run big.
Lucinda Russell has her string in good order and Derek Fox has also been among the winners lately. I know he is the outsider of the field but if Bun Doran bounces back he could end up being the danger. His run at Ludlow was quite eye-catching and he is off that mark again here. Real Stone is also feared but needs to avoid mistakes.
13:00 Newcastle
There should be a fair bit more to come from CLEAR WHITE LIGHT over this trip and with this race cutting up badly now with four non runners it looks a decent opportunity. He won despite making mistakes at Doncaster last month and that looks solid form. He went up 7lb before finishing third at Carlisle but he certainly wasn’t disgraced only beaten three lengths and if he can jump more fluently here he really should be winning off this mark.
He is back up to two and a half miles which looks a big plus and it is no surprise to see him backed into favouritism now. Moonlight Spirit was a decent stayer on the Flat for Charlie Appleby and while he made a winning debut over hurdles he has struggled since pulling up at Haydock on return and then falling at Catterick last time. He needs to prove his stamina up in trip but if bouncing back might still be the danger.
