19:30 Wednesday
Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping his side can take a step closer towards realising their European dream. But they won’t have it their own way against a Crystal Palace outfit that are feeling the pressure and will see this game as an ideal opportunity to put things right.
Brighton vs Crystal Palace Stats
- Brighton have not kept a clean sheet in any of their previous 10 Premier League encounters with Crystal Palace
- Crystal Palace have conceded in nine of their 12 away league games and in four of their five league games away to sides currently in the top half
- 10 of the last 11 meetings between these two sides have seen both teams hit the back of the net
Brighton vs Crystal Palace Prediction
Betting Tip: Both teams to score
De Zerbi ball has taken hold of Brighton and they’re scoring goals whilst playing some fantastic football. But as entertaining as that is, they haven’t showcased too much defensive solidity and that was there for all to see in their most recent outing away to league strugglers Leeds United.
The Seagulls took the lead twice at Elland Road but were pegged back on each occasion thanks to two wonder strikes from Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison and were made to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Patrick Vieira has surely been feeling the pressure mounting on his shoulders as his side have struggled for positive results. The Crystal Palace fans haven’t been able to celebrate a win in any competition since New Year's Eve and with these two sides seemingly on opposite trajectories, the wait may go on for them here.
As good as the hosts have been, they’ve still shown a degree of inconsistency. Looking at their recent home matches, they’ve beaten Liverpool twice and hammered West Ham 4-0. But sandwiched in between is a 1-0 loss to Fulham and despite their ruthlessness in attacking situations, they can be found wanting in a defensive capacity.
The Eagles haven’t scored in three consecutive matches, but they can be forgiven considering two of those were against Manchester City and Liverpool. This will be a match where we should see an improved performance from the visitors and boss Vieira will undoubtedly be demanding more from his side in an attacking sense.
I do think Brighton go out and get the win here. However, I'm banking on Crystal Palace being more threatening going forward than they have in recent weeks and even if they suffer a defeat here, getting on the scoresheet will be a necessity. Both teams to score is generously priced at 6/5 as I'd personally have it closer to 10/11.
With that in mind, I'll be siding with both teams to score at the AMEX on Wednesday evening.
