Vincent Kompany’s men are back in Championship action and they’ll be keen to strengthen their grip on top spot. They suffered a huge defeat in the FA Cup, but will they bounce back with a bang against Sunderland?
Burnley vs Sunderland Stats
- Both teams have contributed to the score count in six of the visitors last seven matches
- Over 2.5 goals has landed in 12 of Burnley’s 19 home league games this season
- The hosts have hit the back of the net in both halves in three of their last four Championship home matches
Burnley vs Sunderland Prediction
Betting Tip: Over 2.5 goals
The Clarets look set to take top spot in the league but boss Vincent Kompany is not a man who will allow his team to take it easy and after suffering a hefty defeat against Manchester City, getting that winning feeling back will be of utmost importance.
Turf Moor has played to its fair share of thrilling league matches this term and 12 of those 19 such games have featured at least three goals. Burnley are yet to draw a blank on home soil, netting on each occasion and at least twice in 13 of those 19. That can be expected once again here as they welcome a Sunderland outfit that have kept just five clean sheets across their 19 road games.
The visitors have managed just one win across their last five Championship matches and it has seen them fall seven points adrift of the playoffs. Preventing their opponents from scoring has been an issue but the Black Cats have scored in 19 successive league games and can contribute to the scoring.
Both teams will get opportunities but I like the look of over 2.5 goals at 10/11.
Betting Tip: Burnley to score in both halves
Sticking with the theme of goals, I want to get on the side of goals here, particularly in favour of the hosts. Burnley’s attacking prowess is a large factor behind why they sit top of the table and after such a big defeat against arguably the best side in the country in Manchester City, Vincent Kompany will want to show his side are still the best in the Championship.
The Clarets have won 15 of their last 16 home matches across all competitions, have scored twice or more in 11 of those and know they can score goals at any moment at this level. The majority of their goals at home have arrived in the second half but they should come out firing straight away and get themselves on the scoreboard in the opening 45 minutes.
As such, the 6/4 available on Burnley to score in both halves makes plenty of appeal.
