Football Accumulator Tips: Wednesday’s 4/1 Treble backs England in the Semis

LA Galaxy vs Los Angeles FC – Los Angeles FC 

The first game of Wednesday’s treble sees us travel to the West Coast of the United States to see a local rivalry between LA Galaxy and Los Angeles FC. 

Although Galaxy are the more historic team, with the likes of David Beckham revolutionising the league for them, it is their neighbours Los Angeles FC who have had the better recent history. They are the reigning MLS Champions and sit near the top of the Western Conference yet again, looking for back to back Championships.

If they manage to do so, they would become the joint third most successful team in the MLS. This in comparison to LA Galaxies five wins shows there is still a gulf between these two sides, similar to the two teams in Manchester. 

However, in terms of this game, Los Angeles FC are the clear favourites. Galaxy are second bottom and have conceded the join most goals in the MLS. Winning three games all season, we can’t see them overpowering one of the better teams in the league. Los Angeles haven’t been in the best form of late, but with a game in hand on the team above and playing in a local rivalry, we think they’ll edge this one. 

Israel U21 vs England U21 – England U21 

The second game of our treble is the first semi-final of the U21 European Championships. Israel are a bit of a shock inclusion in this as they weren’t tipped to even get out of their group, however they find themselves one game away from the final.

England, on the other hand, have been one of the favourites throughout and have shown why. They topped their group without even conceding a goal and have looked dominant all the way through the tournament. 

Both Israel and England were in Group C, with Israel winning one, drawing one and losing one, whilst England had a 100% record. The time these two met in the group stages, England ran away as 2-0 winners. They sustained 69% possession and held Israel to only one shot on target, finishing a dominant display. With England games after that going the same way, we can’t see this pattern changing for this one. England to win and reach the final. 

Spain U21 vs Ukraine U21 – Spain U21 

Our final game is the other semi-final, with another favourite Spain hosting another wildcard Ukraine.  The Spanish were out and out favourites coming into the tournament, but unlike England they didn’t dominate their group. Both Spain and Ukraine finished on seven points, with Spain only topping the group on goal difference. 

Ukraine are the surprise from the group. Many expected Croatia to progress but wins for Ukraine against both Croatia and Romania put them in a great position. They went on to beat another favourite, France, in the quarters to show that they belong to be where they are and it’s not just a fluke. 

The time these two met in the groups, it finished a 2-2 draw with a late 90th minute goal earning a point for the Spanish. Based off this, it is a tough one to call. Throughout the rest of the tournament, the Spanish have been dominant in possession and have shown just why they are favourites.

It’s now the business end of the tournament and we think La Roja will do what they always do and turn it up another level to overcome a resilient Ukraine side. Spain to win and to face England in the final.
