Grimsby vs Hull – Hull win

The first match of our Saturday Treble is a friendly match between League Two side Grimsby and Championship side Hull.

The hosts are looking to start their pre season off in a good manner before the League Two season commences on the 5th of August, where they host AFC Wimbledon. They finished a long way off the play-offs spots, but comfortable clear of the drop zone.

It’s a similar story for the Tigers, as Hull finished 15th, 15 points clear of 22nd place Reading. They’ll want to push further on this season instead of the bottom half of the Championship, but its certainly better than their 19th place finish the season before.

Hull should have the quality to win this friendly, but it’s usually about more than just the result in these games. However, Hull will want to start their pre-season off with a win and minutes in the tank for their players.

Clyde vs Hamilton – Hamilton win

We go to Scotland for our second game as Clyde welcome Hamilton in the Scottish League Cup.

Given the difference in divisions, we would expect Hamilton to run away with this one, especially having won all of the last five competitive fixtures between the two sides.

Both Hamilton and Clyde suffered relegation last season, with the visitors playing next season in the Scottish League One, whereas the hosts will play in League Two.

Hamilton should be winning this one, and a good start could help their promotion ambitions when it comes to the regular league season.

Stenhousemuir vs St Johnstone – St Johnstone win

Our final game is also from Scotland, as St Johnstone travel to Stenhousemuir in the Scottish League Cup.

The Premiership side start their campaign against Hearts on 5th August and a relatively comfortable fixture against Stenhousemuir in League Two should be on the cards. St Johnstone finished in 9th last season and will want to do better than their last campaign.

Against a side a few divisions below, we predict an easy St Johnstone win for this game. They’ve won the last three fixtures between the two sides, and are expected to win this one.
