Nigeria Women vs Canada Women – Canada Women win

The first game of our Friday Women’s World Cup Treble sees Nigeria and Canada clash.

Australia took the advantage of Group B, and the Canadians will want to also get a win under their belt to give them a chance of progressing to the knockout rounds.

Nigeria have taken part in every single FIFA Womens World Cup and are unbeaten in their previous two meetings with Canada, winning the latest match 1-0 in 2011. Despite that, they have failed to score in 12 of their last 16 matches at the World Cup, winning just two of those games.

Canada come into the World Cup as the reigning Olympic champions after winning gold in Tokyo two years ago. They’ll want to progress out the group at the bare minimum, which they managed to do both in 2019 and on their home turf in 2015.

The first two games were both cagey, going the way of the co-hosts Australia and New Zealand by a single goal margin, and this could be a similar story. We expect the Canadians to win this one.

Philippines Women vs Switzerland Women – Ramona Bachmann anytime goalscorer

Switzerland face the Philippines, which could be another close match in Group A.

The Philippines are making their FIFA World Cup debut this year, and this will be the first meeting between the two sides.

Switzerland failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2019 and exited at the group stage at Euro 2022 so they will looking for an upturn in form tournament wise. This is their second ever World Cup appearance..

Neither side have faced one another, so this match is a complete unknown for both sides with forms differing. Switzerland will likely be favoured as they are more well known but the Philippines could maybe pull off a surprise and grab a point.

Regardless, we think that Ramona Bachmann will be the player to get on the scoresheet in this one. She’s played at top clubs in Wolfsburg, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain and has 130 appearances for La Nati, scoring 57 goals in her time.

Spain Women vs Costa Rica Women – Over 4.5 Goals

We already saw one shock with New Zealand winning their first ever World Cup game against Norway, but could there be another massive one when Costa Rica take on Spain?

Spain are the massive favourites in this match, and are second favourites for the whole tournament.

With all the games being low scoring, we think this one will be a high scoring match. This will be Spain’s third appearance at the World Cup.

There has been much conflict in the Spain squad in the build-up, as Jorge Vilda has recalled three players in his squad for the tournament who he had previously frozen out of the national set-up following a protest involving 15 players.

Hopefully for them, it shouldn’t have too big of an issue over the team, and they can focus on what is ahead of them.

As for Costa Rica, they’ll be hoping for a result similar to their last World Cup result against Spain, a 1-1 draw in 2015.

Having won 10 of their last 11 internationals, Spain head into the tournament in fine form, and we think that they will show their class in Friday's contest to claim a comfortable victory over Costa Rica. We think this game could have a lot of goals, mostly in Spain’s favour, and are going to say there will be over 4.5 goals in the game.
