Monday's Women's World Cup 2023 action gets underway with a meeting between Italy Women and Argentina Women at Eden Park in Auckland.

Italy will be hoping to make it out of the group stage for the second straight World Cup, while Argentina are aiming to advance to the knockout rounds for the first time.

Le Azzurre would have been proud of their performance in France four years ago, as they made their way to the quarter-finals before being beaten by eventual runners-up the Netherlands.

After experiencing a disappointing group stage exit at last year's European Championships, Italy will be hoping to fare better in a competitive World Cup group that contains Argentina, South Africa and Sweden.

They will also be encouraged by the fact that they have avoided defeat in all of their previous three World Cup openers (W2, D1).

Like their opponents, Argentina are also making their fourth appearance at the World Cup, having previously done so in 2003, 2007 and 2019.

The South Americans are still searching for their first win at the tournament after drawing two and losing seven of their nine World Cup matches.

Germany Women vs Morocco Women - Germany Women win & over 2.5 goals

On Monday, two-time winners Germany Women will face Morocco Women in the Women's World Cup 2023 at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

While Germany have never missed a World Cup finals, their opponents are preparing to make their tournament debut.

Since being crowned world champions in 2003 and 2007, they have been quarter-finalists on two occasions and reached the semi-finals once.

Competing in a group that contains Morocco, Colombia and South Korea, Germany will be hoping to continue their 100% record of reaching the World Cup knockout rounds. Having won seven and drawn one of their eight World Cup openers (W7, D1), Germany will be confident of picking up a positive result on Monday.

As the lowest-ranked team in their World Cup group, Morocco have their work cut out to advance to the knockout stages, especially having failed to win any of their last five matches.

Germany may have suffered a surprise loss to Zambia in their final warm-up game, but they usually rise to the challenge at major tournaments, and we expect them to begin their World Cup campaign with a comfortable victory over Morocco.

Brazil Women vs Panama Women - Both teams to score no

Brazil will be expected to prove their world renowned football pedigree yet again as they open their 2023 Women's World Cup against Panama on Monday.

The South American giants are a global women's football power, and while they are not amongst this year's top tournament favourites, it would be unwise to underestimate them, here or anywhere in the field.

While Brazil have only made the Women's World Cup final once and have yet to lift the trophy, the Selecao are at their best early in the tournament. Of teams to make at least three Women's World Cup tournaments, they are the lone nation to have won each and every one of their opening matches, outscoring opponents 23-1 in those games.

They have lost just one of their last 18 group stage matches at this competition, and have conceded in just one of their last 12. For 52nd-ranked Panama, playing in their first Women's World Cup, the task is lofty indeed.
