Football Accumulator Tips: Tuesday’s 9/2 Carabao Cup Treble

Blackburn vs Walsall – Blackburn 

The first game of Tuesday's treble has Blackburn hosting League Two side, Walsall. Rovers haven’t been tipped to do much this season, after losing star Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer, but they have gotten their 23/24 Championship season off to an excellent start, beating a West Brom heavily tipped to win last weekend 2-1. They went into the game as heavy underdogs but put on a performance that many didn’t see coming, and may have changed the way others see them this season already. 

Their visitors, Walsall, were beaten away at Morecambe in their opening game of the season and are looking down the barrel of a gun this season. There is a clear gulf in class between the two sides and although this is a cup game and teams will be changed, we believe Blackburn have a much stronger squad and will build upon their performance at the weekend. Blackburn to win this opening game. 

Barnsley vs Tranmere – Barnsley 

The next game in our treble sees Barnsley host League Two side Tranmere. Barnsley were among the stand out performers across the opening weekend of the football league, beating Port Vale 7-0 and they have really set a marker for the rest of the season and have thrown their name in the hat for the League One title already. 

The visitors for this one were beaten at home by Barrow in their opening game, despite dominating most of the game. They had over double the amount of shots than Barrow at the weekend and held 65% of possession, so they were unlucky to come away with nothing and will move onto the next game. 

Barnsley will feel the more confident coming into this game but will find it no easy task to beat Tranmere. However, we do think they have the quality over their League Two counterparts to get this one over the line. 

Newport County vs Charlton – Charlton 

The final game of Tuesday's treble has Newport County hosting Charlton Athletic. The hosts got their season off to a terrible start with a 3-0 loss on the road to Accrington Stanley and they now sit second bottom after ta lacklustre opening performance. 

The visitors on the other hand, beat last year's League Two champions Leyton Orient 1-0 and have got their season off to a good start. Many have Charlton as promotion contenders this year so it is no surprise that they are already up there in the mix. For this one, we feel like Newport are well below the standards of Charlton, so we can only see an away win here.
