AFC Wimbledon vs Coventry – Coventry win (in 90 minutes)

After a narrow defeat to title favourites Leicester on Sunday, Coventry now travel to League Two AFC Wimbledon.

The hosts endured a goalless draw with Grimsby on the opening day of the EFL season, who will look to perform much higher after avoiding relegation by five points after relegation from League One. They have also failed to beat Coventry in their last six meetings, the last of those coming in September 2019, where loanee Liam Walsh scored a 92nd winner on that day.

As for Coventry, it was play-off heartbreak that saw them remain in the Championship after losing on penalties to Luton in last years final. They will want to ease past League Two opposition with relative comfort, but everyone is looking for an upset. They were 4th highest in fouls committed against the Foxes and will want a cleaner display against a team they should be beating on paper.

Expect changes from Coventry’s side that lost 2-1 at Leicester, with youngsters and fringe players coming into the side against the Dons. Despite these changes, we still think the Sky Blues will have enough about them to get the win.

Leeds vs Shrewsbury – Leeds win + Over 2.5 Goals (in 90 minutes)

Leeds recovered from a horror start to life back in England’s second tier with a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City on Sunday, and will be hoping to put that behind them with a easy victory over Shrewsbury. Daniel Farke’s side racked up 25 shots to Cardiff’s seven, as well as making 17 key passes in the draw on Sunday.

The Shrews got their season kick-started with a victory against Cheltenham in League One and will be looking to surprise Elland Road with a victory.

The last time these two teams played was in August 2012 in this same competition, and that ended 4-0 to Leeds. The same result could happen, but if it doesn’t, we think it’ll be a close run result. We think the hosts will progress to the next round in 90 minutes, with three goals in the match.

Burton Albion vs Leicester City – Leicester win + Over 2.5 Goals (in 90 minutes)

The Foxes came from behind to see off Coventry in their first Championship game since 2014 after their long stay in the Premier League came to an end. They now face a Burton Albion side who were beat by the Tangerines on the opening day.

Burton finished 15th in League One last season and really shouldn’t prove any trouble for former Premier League opposition, but that’s the beauty of football! They have only beat the Foxes once in their history back in August 2012 in this competition.

Leicester will undoubtedly make some changes to their starting XI that beat Coventry on Sunday and infront of a Pirelli Stadium, there is every chance an upset is on the cards. Leicester are so strangers to upsets, having won the Premier League against all the odds in 2015/16, but did suffer a defeat to Newport County a few seasons ago in the FA Cup.

It is unlikely that an upset happens however, and we would be shocked if Leicester didn’t go on to win the game in 90 minutes, with over 2.5 goals in the process.
