Man Utd vs Wolves – Man Utd 

The first game of Monday’s treble sees Man Utd kick off their season with a visit from Gary O’Neil's Wolves side. United will line up as a new side this year, with several key players in prominent areas coming in to replace long standing members of the squad.

Most notably Andre Onana replaces David De Gea after his 12 year stay in the United net. Wolves, on the other hand, have lost several key players and have failed to replace them with sufficient quality. 

United had the second best home record last season, winning 79% of matches at Old Trafford and we expect them to take this into this season. In contrast, Wolves struggled in the road last year, winning only 11% on their visits. With this in mind, we back Man United to win their opening game pretty comfortably.

Atletico Madrid vs Granada – Atletico Madrid 

The second game of Monday’s treble sees Atletico Madrid host Granada. Diego Simeone’s side finished 3rd last year, one point behind bitter rivals Real Madrid and they will be hoping they can progress on that this year and challenge for the title. They’ve made several new additions to the squad that bring experience, most notably Cesar Azpilicueta from Chelsea. 

Granada are newly promoted this season after a year away from La Liga and face a big challenge in their first game back. With the gulf in quality evident, Whoscored have Atletico’s chances of winning at 50%, whilst they have Granada’s chances as low as 17%. For this reason, well go with Atletico to win this one.

Boavista vs Benfica – Benfica to win to nil 

The final game of Monday’s treble has the reigning Portuguese champions Benfica travelling to Boavista for their opening fixture. They edged Porto to the title last year after losing only three all season and we can see them competing for it once again this year. 

They had the best away record in the league last season, winning 76% on the road and only lost two games. Their hosts for this one finished mid table last year and weren’t too bad at home, winning 47% of their games. 

WhoScored.com have Benfica’s chances of winning this one at an immense 83%, so it is all but certain that they will take the three points back to Lisbon. The value for this one is in a dominant Benfica display, so Benfica to win to nil is the play here.
