Derby vs Oxford – Derby 

The first game of Tuesday’s treble sees Derby host Oxford United. The Rams were unfortunate not to win promotion back to the Championship last season after just falling short of the play-offs.

With the quality within their ranks, they will hope for much of the same this season, but will look to go one further and compete for automatic promotion. Their visitors only just survived last year and look set to battle it out down the bottom this year as well. 

Derby lost their first game at home to Wigan but put that right the following week with a dominant 3-0 win vs Burton Albion. Oxford also lost their first game and won their second, but have struggled to create solid opportunities in both.

Last season, Derby won 50% of their home games and outscored their visitors by double the amount of goals, with the quality in their squad, we expect that trend to continue this season, Derby to beat Oxford at Pride Park.

Bolton vs Fleetwood – Bolton 

Our next game sees highflying Bolton host Fleetwood town. The Trotters sit pretty at the top of League One after two consecutive 3-0 wins vs Lincoln and Cheltenham. Its early days, but Bolton look like one of the teams to beat this season. 

Fleetwood, on the other hand, drew on the road to Carlisle and were beaten at home by Cambridge United the following game. They look set to struggle this year. 

With Bolton coming into this in such hot form and looking like one of the teams to compete at the top this year, it is no surprise WhoScored.com have their chances of winning this one at a huge 83%. So Bolton to win is the obvious pick here.

Barnsley vs Peterborough – Barnsley 

Finally, we have Peterborough visiting Barnsley in our final game. The Tykes were well fancied coming into this season, and they showed why in their opening fixture with a dominant 7-0 display vs Port Vale. They were held to a draw on the road to Bristol Rovers in their next game, but they remain unbeaten in the league for now. 

Peterborough have won their first two games of the season 1-0 and remain one of four teams yet to concede a goal. However, although Peterborough have looked good so far, we can see Barnsley making their home a fortress and making it hard for visiting teams.

They won 68% of their home games last season and we expect that to continue into this season. WhoScored have their chances of winning this one at 50%, whilst they have Peterborough’s chances at 33%. For these reasons we see Barnsley just about edging this home at home.
