The first Premier League match of the weekend sees Everton travel to Anfield as they look to prevent their local rivals from going top of the table. Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a flying start to this season and will be confident of securing all three points here.

Liverpool vs Everton Stats

  • Liverpool have an xG of 18.74, the 2nd highest in the Premier League.
  • The Reds have won five of the last 10 Merseyside Deby’s and lost just one.
  • Surprisingly, Everton have the 5th highest xG in the league; just 1.18 lower than Liverpool’s.

Liverpool vs Everton Prediction

Liverpool were out of sorts last season as they slumped to a 5th-place finish that saw them miss out on a place in this season’s Champions League. They have since added to their squad in the summer and the midfield signings appear to be the final piece of the jigsaw in Klopp’s new-look squad as he looks to get back amongst the silverware.

The Reds had to settle for a draw in their last match against Brighton. They played their part in a thoroughly entertaining fixture but a late goal from Lewis Dunk meant they teams shared the spoils. Liverpool have won all of their home matches across all competitions so far this season; scoring an average of 2.8 goals per game in the process.

Klopp’s men are three points off Tottenham, who currently lead the way in the Premier League. If Liverpool manage to beat their local rivals by a two-goal margin, they will snatch the top spot before the rest of the weekend’s matches take place.

Everton are bracing themselves for a relegation battle once again. They currently sit three points above the relegation zone and two wins in their last three matches have helped relieve the mounting pressure on Sean Dyche.

The Toffees have been shackled by FFP constraints and it has had a telling impact on their performances on the pitch. Sean Dyche has been in desperate need of a goal scorer since taking the reins at the club. There is an over-reliance on Dominic Calvert- Lewin who has had numerous injury woes in recent seasons.

However, there is some cause for optimism in the underlying numbers. Everton have created plenty of chances throughout the early stage of the campaign. They have had some favourable fixtures but they rank 2nd in the league in terms of non-penalty xG with 17.56 over eight matches. If their forwards become more incisive in the final third they could make the climb towards the middle of the table.

Everton’s last win at Anfield came in 2021 and that was their only victory in the last 10 visits. Over that period they have lost eight and are averaging just 0.7 goals per game. They have failed to find the net at this ground in the last two seasons.

The Toffees need to keep things tight to get a result. Sean Dyche cannot rely on his attack to overcome a deficit so Everton will try to make this a stop-start game. Dyche has only been in charge for one Merseyside Derby and his side committed 16 fouls in that match.

The visitors are averaging 12.33 fouls per away game in the Premier League this season. This number increases slightly to 12.67 fouls when analysing the away matches in the league throughout the whole of Dyches’s tenure. This is just above the line set here but this is a derby and we can expect to see an inflated foul count once again.

Tip: Over 12.5 Fouls For Everton @ 4/5
