Cyprus vs Spain – Spain to win by four or more goals

Our first selection for this Thursday's treble comes from the game between Cyprus and Spain.

Rather unsurprisingly, Cyprus are bottom of Group A of Euro 2024 qualification. The 124th world-ranked side have lost all seven of their games, conceding 25 whilst only scoring twice. They have lost their last three games by four goals or more, and they shipped six goals in Granada when the two sides met in the reverse fixture.

As for Spain, they have qualified for the finals along with Scotland due to Norway being unable to catch them. As a result, Spain manager Luis De La Fuente might see good reason to mix up the squad to give some new players some international experience with the finals fast approaching.

The likes of Aleix Garcia, Alejandro Grimaldo and Rodrigo Riquelme could make their debuts for La Roja. De La Fuenta has won seven of his eight games in charge of the national team, as well as guiding them to their first-ever Nations League success.

Despite the potential changes in the Spain lineup, it will still be a strong Spanish outfit against a weak and lowly Cyprus side. Alvaro Morata has been on brilliant form and while he might not start the game, whoever takes his place will be sure to have a field day in front of goal.

With that in mind, and given they hit Cyprus for six in the reverse fixture, we think Spain will win by four goals or more in Cyprus on Thursday evening.

Bulgaria vs Hungary – Over 1.5 Hungary Goals

The second game from our Thursday treble comes from Bulgaria, as Hungary travel to Plovdiv to try and cement their place in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany next summer.

The Bulgarians are playing for pride at this point, having not won any of their six Group G games so far. This looks unlikely to change with top-of-the-group Hungary looking to secure their place in the finals next summer. They have scored just three times in their six games, conceding 10 goals in the process.

As for Hungary, they know what needs to happen to achieve their third successive European Championships showing; avoid defeat against Bulgaria or hope Montenegro fail to beat Lithuania.

Having reached the Round of 16 in France 2016 and the group stage in Euro 2020, where they picked up draws against France and Germany, they will feel hard done by from the last campaign given they were in one of the toughest possible groups, and that has definitely spurred them on in their qualification efforts.

Since the start of June 2022, Hungary have lost just two of their 14 international fixtures, including big successes in the Nations League where they won three of their four games against Germany and England.

They have scored over 1.5 goals in five of their six Euro 2024 qualification matches so far, and given the fact Bulgaria are already out of qualification, there is every chance that good goalscoring streak continues, so we’ll back Hungary to score two goals against a poor Bulgaria side to book their ticket to Germany next summer.

Liechtenstein vs Portugal – Portugal to win and over 4.5 goals

The final selection of this Thursday treble sees already qualified Portugal take on already eliminated Liechtenstein in the penultimate game of Group J for these sides.

The 200th ranked side in the world have failed to trouble the other European sides in Group J, scoring just the one goal against Bosnia and Herzegovina in qualification whilst conceding 25 in the process. They’ve lost all their eight games and look set to join the likes of other European minnows Cyprus, Gibraltar, Malta and San Marino in finishing the European qualification group stage with zero points.

It’s another story in Portugal, who with two wins in their next two qualifiers can become only one of two sides with an 100% win record in qualification, joining France on that level.

Whilst their group has thrown up no surprises with the likes of Luxembourg, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Liechtenstein, they will still be happy they are in the finals with no hiccups, given they finished second to Ukraine in the last qualification period for Euro 2020.

Back to Thursday’s game, Portugal have scored 32 goals in the qualification process while just conceding two. That is 12 more goals scored than the second highest scorers Switzerland (20), just highlighting how lethal they have been in front of goal, even despite the low quality of opposition.

With that in mind, we think they could be in red hot form once again, even though they have already qualified for the finals in Germany next summer. Portugal are heavy favourites to win, and we think they’ll do so by scoring over 4.5 goals in the game.
