Bournemouth vs Luton – Bournemouth Win

Mid-table side Bournemouth clash with relegation candidates Luton in this midweek Premier League fixture. A win would almost guarantee Bournemouth a place in the Premier League next season while Luton are getting desperate to climb out of relegation places with only 11 games to play.

Luton have been in poor form recently, they lost five games in a row before getting a draw against Crystal Palace this weekend. They remain winless in seven and have conceded 23 goals in those seven games. 

They go into this game as the away team which won’t instil any confidence in the Hatters fans as they have only won four games away from home this season.

Lucky for them, Bournemouth are also having a torrid time at the moment, they have just one win in the last eight fixtures and are off the back of a lacklustre 2-2 draw with Sheffield United where they came back from 2-0 down to salvage a point. 

However, we are willing to look past Bournemouth’s poor form and back them to win this. Solanke has been prolific against newly promoted sides this season having been involved in five goals against them and with Luton’s current defensive injury crisis their defence will be vulnerable to Iraola’s attacking Bournemouth side.

On the other side of the pitch, Bournemouth’s defence has only conceded five goals in their last five home fixtures, which includes a very respectable 0-1 defeat to Man City.

It will likely be a high scoring game, but I think Bournemouth’s attack will capitalise on Luton’s depleted defence and if Bournemouth’s defenders keep up their current form, then they will ease to a victory at home.

Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan – Inter Milan To Win

Atletico come into this fixture hoping to overturn a one goal deficit in the Champions League Round of 16, when they face Inter Milan at the Wanda Metropolitana this Wednesday.

These sides have contrasting domestic form. Atletico are going through a rough patch which has seen them drop to 4th in La Liga, sitting six points behind Barcelona. There is just two points separating them from losing their place in the Champions League next season.

They have lost five of their last eight fixtures in all competitions, only winning two of those and scoring just nine goals (five of those came against Las Palmas). 

Inter Milan are in the driving seat to win the Scudetta, sitting 16 points clear of second-placed AC Milan. They have an incredible record of 14 straight wins in all competitions and have only lost once in the league this season.

While the Wanda Metropolitana can be an intimidating venue for Champions League guests, Inter are unbeaten on the road this season and will be confident they can continue that trend. 

Momentum is on the side of the visitors; they have had the privilege of resting players in the league and will be fully focused on the Champions League with the domestic title all but won. I don’t think Atletico will be good enough to compete, even with the home advantage.

Dortmund vs PSV – Dortmund to qualify

The first leg of this Champions League round of 16 tie was a close game which ended 1-1 in Eindhoven. Both sides will be hoping to break this stalemate when they meet in Germany tonight.

I think Dortmund will be very pleased with this result, PSV have won 15 of their 19 home games in all competitions this season (drawing the other four) and have made their home a fortress this season. They have conceded just 14 goals in all home games this season (averaging 0.74 goals conceded at home a game). 

Dortmund will be happy to have survived this game unscathed.

There is a lot to be said about PSV’s incredible form this season as they have gone unbeaten in all domestic games this season. However, I want to focus on their European form which I think shows some gaps. 

Their Champions League journey thus far has not been plain sailing; they scraped past a depleted Sevilla team who suffered from red cards with a last-minute winner and have draws against both Rangers and Lens as well as a 4-0 defeat against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

They have conceded in every Champions League fixture this season apart from one game. 

Having survived the first leg, Dortmund now play at home where they have only lost three times this season in all competitions. They have formidable form with only one loss in their last 13 games and sit in 4th in a tough German league this year.

With the support of the impressive home crowd, I think Dortmund will prevail in this tie as PSV come up against one of few real challenges they have faced this season.
