17:30 Saturday

Manchester City take on Wolves at the Etihad in Saturday’s late kick-off. They trail Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title but have their fate in their hands having played a game fewer than the Gunners.

The Citizens are no strangers to high-pressure situations at the end of the season. They have been in title races before and know nothing less than perfection will do if they are to be crowned champions of England for the fourth consecutive season.

Wolves will be delighted with how the campaign has panned out. They are sitting comfortably in 11th place and will be eyeing further progress with Gary O’Neil at the helm.

Over 3.5 Cards In The Match

Wolves matches rank highly in terms of cards. Gary O’Neil is keen for his side to get stuck in and their matches have seen an average of five cards per game as a result. This is significantly higher than the league average of 4.53 cards in each match.

Manchester City matches see far fewer cards with an average of 4.03. Pep Guardiola’s team appear to be in cruise control a lot of the time but there is no room for a slip-up at this crucial stage of the season. There were nine yellow cards when these sides squared off earlier in the season. The last five head-to-heads between these teams at the Etihad have seen an average of 4.4 cards.

Craig Pawson is at the whistle for this one. He officiated Wolves’ most recent away match against Nottingham Forest and dished out five cards in that clash.

Phil Foden To Score

Phil Foden missed Manchester City’s win over Nottingham Forest due to illness but Pep confirmed he is available for this match. He has arguably been City’s best player this season and I’m backing him to make an impact on his return.

Foden has scored 16 goals in the Premier League this season. He found the net twice in his last start against Brighton. His non-penalty xG of 0.34 per 90 minutes played puts him in the 87th percentile when compared with all attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues. Phil has managed to overperform that metric by scoring an average of 0.54 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes. Foden scored a hat-trick in his last Premier League start at the Etihad.

Over 1.5 Fouls For Joao Gomes

Wolves rank highly in terms of fouls. They are committing an average of 12.46 per Premier League game, only Bournemouth have made more. O’Neil’s side made 18 fouls as they beat Manchester City 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Joao Gomes is a key figure in the heart of the Wolves midfield. He is vital in breaking up opposition attacks and tanks highly in terms of fouls as a result.  Gomes has made a total of 58 fouls in the Premier League this season, an average of 2.19 fouls per 90 minutes played. He committed four fouls when these teams went toe-to-toe in September.

The midfielder made two fouls and was booked in Wolves’ last game against Luton.
