Euro 2024 Predictions for the Round of 16: Back Germany to progress

Switzerland vs Italy

Switzerland comfortably booked their place in the last-16 of Euro 2024, picking up five points from their nine games. They have been solid at the back, conceding just three goals so far.

Italy left it late to progress to the knockout stages of the competition, with Mattia Zaccagni's late equaliser against Croatia confirming their place in the round-of-16.

Five of the last six meetings between Switzerland and Italy have ended in draws, and another stalemate may be on the cards in the first knockout game of the competition.

Germany vs Denmark

Germany left it late to wrap up top spot in Group A as a 92nd minute equaliser saw them set up a last-16 meeting with Denmark. The tournament hosts have been solid on home turf, which bodes well as they chase down Euros glory.

Denmark have been difficult to break down but have struggled in the final third. They are one of five teams to have progressed having scored just two goals in the group stages.

Denmark's Euros adventure should come to an end on Saturday night.

England vs Slovakia

England limped over the line in Group C, topping the group despite recording only one victory, after the goalless draw with Slovenia on Tuesday evening.

Gareth Southgate's side, though, have been drawn into the more favourable side of the European Championship's final stage, and should really fancy their chances.

Slovakia, meanwhile, qualified despite finishing third in Group F, in which every team ended the group stage with four points.

These two sides have not faced each other in nearly seven years, and have actually only met six times. England have won five of those meetings, along with one draw.

Spain vs Georgia

Luis de la Fuente's Spain were the only team to win all three of their group games at Euro 2024, and progressed comfortably as winners of Group B.

Much fancied after their performances so far, the 2008 and 2012 champions could set up a quarter-final clash with hosts Germany if they advance here.

Georgia, though, are not to be underestimated. In their first major tournament they have provided entertainment, drama and upset.

Willy Sagnol's side are sure to give this one a real go, but could just fall short.
