The Premier League season kicks off tonight as Manchester United takes on Fulham at Old Trafford, marking the beginning of another exciting season of Fantasy Football. With the deadline for Gameweek 1 squad submissions looming on Friday, August 16, at 18:30, it's time to finalize your team.

Luckily, FPL Heisenberg is here to help with five essential players you won't want to leave out of your squad.

FPL Tips: Five Must Have Players

Joško Gvardiol (Defender, Manchester City):

Gvardiol is one of the best defensive options this season. The Croatian international has settled in quickly at Manchester City, known for their solid defence – only Arsenal had a better defensive record last season.

Gvardiol’s ability to score from set-pieces – and from open play – makes him a valuable FPL asset. Pep used him high up on the left towards the end of last season where we saw him get a lot of attacking returns.

Eberechi Eze (Midfielder, Crystal Palace):

Eze is set to be the talisman for Crystal Palace this season, especially after the sale of Michael Olise.

As a creative midfielder with an eye for goal, he’s expected to be involved in most of Palace’s attacking play – and he’s on penalties too. Eze’s dribbling skills and ability to pick out key passes make him a strong differential pick, offering both goal and assist potential.

Alexander Isak (Forward, Newcastle United):

Isak’s form at the end of last season hinted at his potential to be a standout FPL player. The Swedish striker is Newcastle’s main goal threat, and with the Magpies aiming for a top-four finish, Isak is likely to be among the goals.

His pace, finishing, and ability to link up play make him an excellent forward choice. Like Eze – and my next two picks – Isak is also on penalties.

Mohamed Salah (Midfielder, Liverpool):

Salah remains an FPL powerhouse. As Liverpool’s primary goal scorer and penalty taker, he guarantees points. His consistency over the years is unmatched, and with Liverpool bolstering their squad, expect Salah to rack up goals and assists once again.

Erling Haaland (Forward, Manchester City):

Haaland is a must-have in my opinion – even with his huge £15m pricetag. The Norwegian striker had an incredible debut season, breaking goal-scoring records.

With Manchester City’s attacking prowess, Haaland will continue to score plenty. He’s likely to be the most captained player most Gameweeks too – going without him will be scary.
