Luton may have been relegated from the top tier of English football last season, but they showed plenty of fight at Kenilworth Road. They lost just two of their 19 home matches by a margin of two goals or more.

Their form in front of their own fans this season will prove crucial in any success they have so Rob Edwards will be keen for his side to take all three points here after losing their opening home game.

The Hatters did the double over QPR the last time they were in the Championship. They ran out 3-1 winners in this fixture. Edwards’ team racked up a total of 17 shots in that game and Rangers weren't credited with creating any clear-cut chances by Opta.  Luton also ran out 3-0 victors in the last league meeting at Loftus Road. 

QPR are still awaiting their first league win of the season. They did dump Luton out of the EFL Cup midweek via a penalty shootout but Cifuentes’ team had 11 fewer attempts than their opponents. I’m backing Luton to find the remedy for their wastefulness in this clash.

Both Teams To Score

Both teams have scored in all five of QPR’s competitive matches so far this season. The Rs are scoring an average of 1.4 goals in those matches but conceding 1.6. They have also scored on their last four visits to Kenilworth Road so we should see action at both ends here. 

Luton have netted just one goal so far this season but their xG suggests they should have scored more.

They ended their clash with Preston last weekend with an xG of 1.64 but failed to find the net.  The Hatters were beaten 4-1 by Burnley in their opening game of the season but their xG was just 0.03 less than the Clarets. They can find the scoring touch and reap the rewards here.

Over 1.5 Shots For Zack Nelson

Zack Nelson started Luton’s first game of the season against Burnley and had two attempts in that clash. He was then benched for the clash with Portsmouth before playing just five minutes against Preston.

However, he had a chance to shine in the EFL Cup and duly delivered. Nelson scored Luton’s only goal of the game and racked up a total of four shots.

The performance should be enough for the talented youngster to earn a start at either wing-back or in midfield on Friday.
