Luis Diaz To Have 2+ Shots

Fresh from opening the scoring against Brentford, I am backing Luis Diaz to register a couple of shots here. The Colombian has registered four shots so far in the league campaign, with only Casemiro (six) and Mo Salah (six) from both sides registering more.

Diaz is picking up where he left off: in his last seven league starts, he has had two or more shots in six of them. The last time these sides met at Old Trafford, Diaz managed an extraordinary six shots, the joint-second highest he had in any match in the 2023/24 season. He even grabbed a goal in the process.

Casemiro To Be Shown A Card

Whilst he has not been shown a card so far this season, the Brazilian is my pick to be carded - there is a good chance there could be a number of cards in this match, which could become particularly fiery if there is an early Liverpool goal.

Casemiro has completed 90 minutes in both his league matches so far, and is likely to feature alongside Kobbie Mainoo as the duo attempt to repel the likes of Jota, Szoboszlai, Salah and the aforementioned Luis Diaz.

One other potential opponent is Alexis Mac Allister, who has won the most fouls for Liverpool so far this season, with five, at a rate of 2.50 per 90. The Argentinian will look to get forward whenever possible, and his late runs from deep could see him winning fouls in areas Casemiro operates in.

Last season, Casemiro was Manchester United’s second most carded player in the league, with seven, and assuming he gets the game time, this season is likely to follow a similar trend.

Liverpool To Win

Liverpool’s strong recent record in this fixture, particularly in the league, gives me confidence that they can get a win here.

That confidence grows further when you consider the impact Manchester Utd’s latest defeat will have had on their squad, especially the last minute nature of it, coming after they had a goal of their own disallowed with an unnecessary offside.

Liverpool have recorded two wins from their last four visits to Old Trafford, including a 5-0 away thumping in October 2021. Incredibly, they have managed a 4-0  and a 7-0 win since then too.
