Stoke vs Hull

Hull’s poor run continued when they were beaten 2-0 by Sheffield United last weekend. They are without a win in their last eight Championship matches, a run that dates back to April. Stoke have lost just one of their last seven matches against Hull. They have won five, scoring an average of 2.14 goals over that period so a home win looks to be on the cards on Friday night.

Watford managed a 1-1 draw against Coventry in their last outing but will want to get back to winning ways here. The Hornets won their first five competitive matches of the season so the team are averaging 1.58 more goals than they’ve scored across all competitions. The Canaries have won just two of their last 10 games against Watford.

QPR have drawn three of their five league matches thus far and sit firmly in midtable. They are yet to record a win at Loftus Road and drew their last game in front of their own fans 1-1 with Plymouth.  Millwall’s last away game ended in a draw and there appears to be very little to split the teams here.

This is one of the more glamorous games in the Championship this weekend. Sunderland are 2nd in the league after losing at Plymouth last weekend. The Black Cats have also scored the most goals in the division with an average of 2.4 per game. Middlesbrough have the highest xG in the league with 1.95 per game so we should see plenty of goals in this one. Michael Carrick’s side are unfortunate to be 10th in the table and can earn a point here.

Oxford United have made an exceptional start to life in the second tier after being promoted from League One. They have picked up nine points, meaning they sit in 7th place. Des Buckingham’s men have won their last two games and will be full of confidence ahead of the trip to the Britannia Bristol City have their last two matches 3-0 so we could see a shock result.

Burnley vs Portsmouth

Burnley were back to their best as they beat Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road in their last match. Some player sales threatened to derail their good start but the Clarets are just three points off top coming into matchday six. Portsmouth are still awaiting their first win and have shipped three goals in their last two matches so Scott Parker’s side should emerge victorious this weekend.

Cardiff sit bottom of the Championship ahead of the weekend. They face a Leeds side that are gunning for promotion so the signs are ominous here. Daniel Farke’s side are 9th in the league and need to put a positive run of results together to put the pressure on those near the top. The Bluebirds lost this fixture 2-0 last season.

Luton finally grabbed their first win last weekend as they beat Millwall 1-0. Rob Edwards’ side were expected to be amongst the frontrunners in the race for automatic promotion having kept their squad together following Premier League relegation but they need to get a move on. The Hatters have the quality to get the better of a Sheffield Wednesday side that haven’t celebrated a victory since their 4-0 triumph over Plymouth on the opening weekend.

Sheffield United vs Derby

Sheffield United never really put up a fight in the Premier League last season but they are eager to return to the top flight at the first time of asking. Back-to-back wins for Chris Wilder’s team have moved them into the playoff places despite their 2-point deduction. Derby have also performed well but the Blades should be able to secure all three points on Saturday. The Rams have lost both of their away games in the Championship thus far.

West Brom vs Plymouth

West Brom have surprised many with their fast start. They are top of the tree with 13 points and are yet to concede a goal at the Hawthorns.  In fact, they have conceded just one goal in their last six home matches in the league. Wayne Rooney got his first win as Plymouth boss at home to Sunderland last weekend and while that will give them confidence, their away form is poor. Argyle have won just three of their last 20 league matches on the road, scoring an average of 0.75 goals per game in the process.
